Ok, so I'm going to install a wiikey power switch. Originally I thought I would just use the wire I had left over from the wiikey when I originally had it shipped, but as it turns out I threw that away (yeah, I know, dumb move on my part). So my question is:
What is the recommended solder type and type of wire to use to solder up a wiikey power switch? Will it matter if the switch portion of the wire/solder is different than the rest of the wiikey install? Also, is this stuff that I can just go to radio shack and buy? Sorry for all the questions.
Thank You!!!

Right - I know that ppl were putting in switches when SSBB original wouldn't run but that's not an issue now with 1.9s so I'm curious as to why you are putting the switch in?

"Future-proofing" would be a good reason.
If it happened once (as with SSBB), it's possible that it could happen again.
During the SSBB debacle I was "down" for 24 hours. Now, that wouldn't normally be an issue unless you took your 6 yr. old to the store to purchase the game, but had to tell him "We can't play the game until tomorrow."
Luckily, he has the attention span of a typical 6 yr. old and I let him play Guild Wars on my PC until I could get SSBB backed up.

I'm doing it just in case for the future. I'm hearing that Nintendo might start being able to detect the use of chips when playing games online and then ban you......maybe it's just a roomer, maybe not.....either way i still want to add the switch.
Now not to sound rude or unappreciative of any help that could come my way, but what does my reason have to do with you being able to answer my question or not? Does it matter why I'm doing it, I just am and would like to know what type of solder to use. I already found an answer that I should use 30AWG wire.
I have bought SSBB and am going to buy Mario Kart, and I want to be able to play these games online without worry of banning.
Thanks for any help!!!

It's not future proofing. It doesn't add future compatability to the chip which would be actual future proofing. And whilst it might have solved the hassle for some at the time of SSBB's release there's no existing reason for it now.
You aren't adding a necessary function and only anticipating it may be required and in that case surely there's no logical reason to fit the switch until it becomes necessary cos it may well not? But yeah go ahead - it's certainly your choice.

Actually that is quite rude to be honest. Did it occur to you that I might wonder if there is some advantage to adding a switch that I was unaware of? It's quite ignorant and selfish to ask for help and assume that ppl might not want to discuss the issue for their own benefit. But you go ahead and put your switch in. If you are paranoid about being banned for playing certain games using your modchip then that's all you had to say tbh. No need for the other flan ;)

I agree that it is good for people to discuss about things. But as this is now the 6th post to this thread and I still do not have an answer to my question then the discussion still gets me nowhere. The way you phrased your first post seemed like you were talking down to me as if I had no idea what I was talking about and you were trying to prove you were better than me. I still would like to know what the best solder is to use. Call me stupid for wanting to add a switch, but I don't care. I don't have $60 to spend on a new chip right now and still buy mario kart when it comes out, and who knows about the future, but for now this cheap $5 solution is what works for me and I'm going to do it.

Since I did not mod my own I don't know what the current requirements are for wiiKey power. I would imagine that 18-22 awg would be adequate. Any solder that is appropriate for electronics would be OK.

That's irrelevant - My post was the first reply and I asked a simple and valid question. I've made post after post trying to help others if possible and I've asked the odd question myself and never thought there was anything wrong in that. I like to think I'm as entitled to support as anybody.

That's you being paranoid again. I pointed out that I knew about the SSBB issue and realised that couldn't be the reason and I basically asked you to help educate me because I wanted to know something. There's no way you can say I was trying to prove I was better than you when I ask what I think is a fair question. Why would I have any need to do that? But frankly I'm relieved I don't have your obvious issues.
If you're that strung out you have my sympathy but really man... get over it.
Do what you want regarding the switch. I would not have told you to do otherwise to be honest. If I made fun of you it's not because you were being stupid about that. It's because you were rude and I said nothing to warrant it. Just think on that eh - if there's anything that makes me "better" than you - it's nothing to do with consoles, switches, modchips or anything like that. It's good manners and respect for ppl ;)

You don't get to sit there and judge me based on a couple of comments. I may have overreacted a little, but that does not give you the right to say you are a better person than I am when you do not even know who I am. If anything you are only proving further your need to have power over other people. But whatever, I've never gotten into a fight or argument on any type of forum before and I certainly hope this is the last dispute. I apologize for any insensitiveness or rudeness on my part and hope nothing is taken to heart and in the future I will be more sensitive toward others questions and learning.
Sorry again!

hmmm - but you can judge me if I ask one question? You conclude so much about me but it's only fair if you ask questions and judge ppl?

You overreacted a LOT. Read up - you were then one who suggested my motive was proving I was better than you and certainly on the subject of manners and respect, anyone reading this would have to agree that you were rude where I didn't deserve it. I don't do that so therefore I am better in that department.
Originally posted by erik1213: If anything you are only proving further your need to have power over other people.
Again you insult me and you judge me when I've done nothing wrong here. Why do I want power? I don't value my ego that much that I worry about looking better than anyone here. I'm not as insecure as you obviously are and I don't even see why you brought it up. I'd be embarassed and frankly it makes me cringe that ppl think that way at all.

I don't take any of this to heart cos I'm too busy living a well balanced life - but I expect you to consider others who might well be put off asking any questions because they get the kind of replies, guys like you give. Many ppl need help - not just you!

Guys, please CHILL!!!!!!
JuniR, your inputs and help far outweigh this one "transgression". You even caught it yourself, which I think is to be commended.
Erik123, please try not to be so "thin skinned". Attacks, warranted or not, are part of being on an anonymous public forum.
Speaking as someone on the "back side of the hill", life is too short for anyone to have angst and anxiety about stuff like this.

Dailun - I am chilled m8, plz don't make the same mistake of reading more into my words than what they are. ;) They are straight and true - I've made no transgression tbh - I don't think having a lil joke at the expense of someone who bashes me is that big a deal and when ppl have had a dig at me in that way - I've never been remotely bothered. I have a decent sense of humour m8 and my ego ain't up there ;)

OK, cool. You're right, of course. Stating your opinion is never a transgression. That's what a free society is all about.
Go have a nice weekend!

hmmm - did anyone ever tell you the dangers of solvent abuse? I see no blood anywhere, nor any battle for that matter so away with your petty melodramatic inclusion and apply for counselling asap ;) ROFL

@eric- You DEFINITELY overreacted to a fair question. so you started this whole mess.
@junir- you kept it going, and got quite pissy.
@me- i should shut up and mind my own business
@mods- this thread should be closed

OK well I guess I'll answer this one lol-
I used a 60/40 formula-based solder that I got from Radioshack. Use 30AWG wire.
No it does not matter but I recommend using the same.
Yep you can just go to Radioshack and buy all of your soldering materials. Try and get a small enough switch so that it will fit inside the Wii.

What a mess. Then other members have to jump in with nothing to add but trying to stir the pot and post pad.
If you can't post anything constructive to the original question(s) then do this DON'T post - that goes to all.
