Hi all, I received a PSP today which came with 3.52m33 installed already. I upgraded it to 3.52m33-4 with no problems, and would now like to get to the latest version (3.90). The problem is when trying to run the upgrade I get the following message:
"Some of your idstorage keys have not the correct values, probably due to a downgrader. In order to continue, press X to restore the correct values, press R to exit."
Naturally this seemed a little strange so I googled it to find that a few people have pressed X and ended up with bricks. I did a little more searching and found out about Keycleaner. Running this tells me that all my keys are OK except 0x0005 which has failed written next to it.
I'm rather worried about changing anything out of the ordinary without prior consultation. So could any of you guys help me out with what I should do? I really want v3.90 but don't want to end up with a brick.
Also if it's important I should say that it looks like the 2gb memory stick it came with is fake.
Please note I have spent quite a long time researching this and don't want to fill up the forum with useless questions, but I couldn't find a comprehensive answer that I felt I could trust.
since your key 5 is corrupted, that means you have a ta-082/086 motherboard. that is completely normal. if key 5 is not corrupted, then you cannot use custom firmware.
use THIS guide to update to 3.90 m33-2 with no problems.
Hi cee43ja1, many thanks for your reply. So if all of my keys except key 5 are fine. and key 5 should be corrupted, how come the updater is telling me I have a problem?
Sorry, I should have said I have the ta-082/6 motherboard.
OK so I got to the bit where I have backed up the battery's eeprom, and select "convert to service mode". Unfortunately it then says "verify: 0x3d868a00 Failed!". After a quick google it seems that my battery is also a fake! Looks like I'll have to contact my eBay seller and request a partial refund as I was lead to beleive that the memory stick and battery would be real!
Is there anything I can do with this fake battery?
Other than use it like normal for gaming etc - Not really, fake batteries are generally unable to use service mode and often have inferior charge levels to genuine ones. Bad Luck :-(
