360 Lite-On Drives emerge

Hi today I recieved a console back from microsoft repair center in Australia, it had a BENQ drive which didnt seem to flash via dosflash. Upon inspection i believe I have found a new drive revision!

We are currently trying to find data sheets on this controller to further analyze security. It appears to be a masked-rom (read-only) setup, similar to that of the xbox original, version 1.6.

Well, they were bound to release a new drive eventually. So it's about time. It'll be interesting to see how "locked down" this one is.

Why doesn't MS make ALL the drives the Hitachi 0079K so it's tough to flash?

Because a few months back MS signed a new deal with Lite On for them to supply dvd drives.

umm, perhaps you should look at the date of that article??? its from 2006, and is talking about the 78 model hitachi drive. which has been hacked, along with their phillips drive they said wasnt capable of being flashed.

Seeing how the drive was just found yesterday, I'd be will to go out on a limb here and say it mayyy be a little too early to determine whether it's hack-proof or not ;)

very true, and i would like to see some more pics of the drive, like what the tray looks like, what team name it was found in, lot # manufacture date, all that good stuff.
