I Have a dvd plays ok on my dvd player but on my pc it plays but no sounds are there -any idea what i require.

Check the Control Panel 'Add/Remove programs' to see if AC3 Filter is installed (DVD audio is AC3 format)..

I prefer VLC over windows media player anyway.

Use that. It's a better media player IMO.
