I'm currently having problems getting it to recognize my "backups" or homebrew. Actual games work (thankfully) and by comparison, the WiiKey looks legit. I did also actually get the WiiKey setup disc to start up and be recognized via the GameCube startup. Being that that is on a recordable disc, that's good right? I just haven't had the chance to actual get past the first screen cuz I need to buy a GC controller later today before I can do anything. But yeah, I was just curious if my Wii can start up that recorded "setup" disc then the possibility of me having a working WiiKey is good, right? I've been thinking about it all day and it's been killing me! Thanks.

Media, burning software? You can't just bang any disk burned with any software in and expect it to work.

Try Verbatim DVD-R @ 4x using imgburn.

I'm using Dynex DVD-Rs with NERO 7. But since that GC "setup" thing started up via a recorded disc, I should be so far so good, right? I mean, after I load that up and run it (when I get a GC controller) -- I should hopefully be able to run backup games and homebrew? Rather than get disc errors... Thanks again.

It's just hard to tell whether it's a bad burn, bad rip, or bad WiiKey...

Nope - you can't assume that at all. It's the most common mistake ppl make when it comes to burning- "this works, therefore this should" - even if one game works it doesn't mean you won't have problems with others.

Oh yeah, I completely understand. I'm just double checking and exploring my options. Thanks for all the info so far though.

But being able to boot up that one disc is a good start, right?

Yes that means the install is good....hopefully.

the setup/config. discs do not really need to be burned on good media for them to work since it is not a lot of data. But games on the other hands you will need to use high quality media.

dynex is pretty dreadful media in my experience.

i was able to burn my wiikey config disks on some TDK dvd-r, but the wii wouldn't play games off of them. games would only work after switching to 8x verb dvd+r media. hope that helps :).

Breathe in for luck...

You don't need a GC controller to set the Config. Use the Reset button on the Wii instead. Press once to move the selection, Press and Hold to apply that option (i.e. switch Region Override to On or Off)

Whoa, that's awesome man. Thanks for the info, I guess I'll return that GC controller to Gamestop now.

Also, when I went home that day and loaded up GCOS and ran thru the setup, all those discs that I burned of MySims the other day worked! Which was a relief after them not working the night before. Now trying out some other games, the title screen loads up in the Wii screen but when I click to start it, it goes to a black screen and my Wii controller turns off. I've been reading and it looks like it's an update thing error or a cheap disc. I'm gonna try and run one of those "debricker" things on the newer games, I think that might fix it.
