Will replacing a 360 drive get you banned?

my 360 drive has been scratching games, making clicknig noises and putting rings around my 360 games. It is getting very annoying so i decided i wanted to fix it. Instead of paying 100$ and sending it to microsoft i decided to fix it myself and save some money. my question was can i buy a 360 replacement drive, spoof it ect and all that without getting banned? And i dont think it will but would this fix all the drive problems?

dam well will the method above work, placing rubber pads in the drive? If not is there anyway i can fix it with out throwing my money at microsoft?

If you spoof a drive, chances are you may get banned. But if you replace the drive with the exact same version, then all you have to do is swap the mobo from the old drive to the new one and you'll be good to go.
It's as simple as that.

not sure what you mean by swap the mother board. Do you mean replace the drive key or sumthing. and buying the same drive will 100% not get you banned?

He means, buy a new DVD Drive, of the same exact brand as the one you have. Open it up, take out the circuit boards on both. Put the circuit board from the old drive into the new drive and then plug and go, no flashing required.
I know its more detailed than that, but thats the gist

ok i get it now but im just macking sure but can you do this with a hitachi/lg drive? And wouldnt just buying a new lens be cheaper?

depends on if its the lens that causing the problem.
if its making a clicking sound, it could be the drive motor.
if you aren't sure, I'd suggest buying some $3 rubber pads first, and see if that works

ok il try the rubber pads 1st i guess and by clicking noises i mean sometimes while the game is running and sometimes when it tries to read games it stops reading the game and makes those noises and i would just like to add that it doesent read some games. Would buying those rubber pads make the game readable?

does buying a new laser mean you have to solder something or no cause in that case il just buy the rubber pads and a new lens/laser

The only soldering i know of that you have to do is to remove the anti-static point on the laser when you first get it.

Yea, when I said mobo, I meant the mobo in the dvd drive.
If you haven't done anything like this before, I'd recommend spending the extra ~$10 and just get the whole drive.
See the black screws the arrows are pointing to in that tut link slim posted? Those screws adjust the height of the rails which the laser travels on. If you put those screws back in at the wrong angle, the laser will not read the disc.
Yes, you just simply open it back up and adjust the screws until you get the right angle, and you could get it on the first try... or you could spend a couple of hours of adjusting.
Save yourself the headache and spend a little extra and get the whole drive. That way you don't have to worry about adjusting the laser.
Also, don't just get the same model drive, make sure it's the same firmware version, too.

dont wanna sound dumb but how do you check what firmware it is? Do you mean the numbers under rom version? Under rom version it says 046DG and under model it says GDR-3120L

the firmware bhetrick was reffering to is the model of the drive, such as the 046DG you mentioned. the new drive you buy HAS TO BE THE SAME DRIVE. so it has to be the 046DG. once you get the drive, just take out the PCB and swap them. but you could just buy a different drive, (dont buy the hitachi 79 drive) and flash it with your current drives firmware, this would also solve your problem, but could lead to you getting banned.
