1st... Whats the best Vid cap card to purchase? I've seen references to two which have caught my attention.. Hauppage hardware or AVDC-1000... I want to capture both analog from my VHS player to burn into DVD's and I also want to cap movies and programs from my digital satellite reciever (Direct TV).....

2nd....I am hooked up to DirecTV with two receivers.. One for the Living Room/entertainment center, and the other for the Bedroom..is there a means/method/madness or manner in which a software (?) receiver program can be hooked into from the third LNB off the dish so as to enable watching/feeding/recording/streaming of the signal into my PC (w/ the above mentioned soon to be purchased Video card) without having to purchase a third reciever ???...

Just for info's sake, I have a stand alone Panasonic DVD Writer hooked into my main Big Screen TV which I copy movies onto DVD-R, or DVD-RAM, a Go-Video DVD/VHS Player-Copier (VHS Only) also hooked into the main system. My PC has an LG DVD-R/DVD-RAM Burner with a seperate DVD-ROM... I want to copy my store bought videotapes onto DVD... I am not spending extra bucks to the Buy DVD's of the same stuff I already have had for a few years If I can help it..Any help would be greatly appreciated..Tnks

I have found the Panasonic DVD recorder (I have the DMR-e50) did a far superior job of capturing video; far better than any capture system that I had tried before that. I use mine to transfer VHS's to DVD as well as recording off satelite.

As far as copying your store bought VHS's to DVD, I really don't see the point. You are still seeing a VHS quallity product on the DVD. You miss out on digital picture, Dolby Digital sound, and on many VHS tapes you miss out on widescreen.

All the bruning info you need to start is here: http://www.dvdrhelp.com/forum/userguides/141024.php#dvd9dvd2one

Thanks for the reply...I have the Panasonic DMR-E80H which does do a good job of capturing Video tapes except if the movie is say 2 hours and 10 minutes, I have to set the time limit to 4 hours,(SP setting vs LP setting) and that degrades the quality quite a bit vs. just a two hour copy..If I have a capture card, I can master the 2 hr 10 minute move better than the DVD writer can..I'm still going to use the DVD recorder on my TV.. I also want to hook one of my recievers up to a PC I'm building and use it also to receive Signals and hook up the Video tape player to, hence the request as to which one is the best..
I think I'm going to go with the ADVC-1000...Still going to do some more research though...
Thanks for the reply...

Does your 80 not have a function called "flex recording?" My 50 (which I'm assuming is an older model) has that feature, and I know the 30 didn't have it.

It allows you to select any time, and I use it for my movies that are just over 2 hours.
