Real Talk: LEXAR MEMORY STICKS WORK JUST FINE!!!

YES, BUY LEXAR MEMORY STICKS, THEY COST LESS THAN SONY MS, AND IN FACT WORK EXACTLY THE SAME AS SANDISK AND SONY STICKS!!!!!!

This is something that angers me:

the boards EVERYWHERE like to spread this "fact" that if memory sticks aren't Sony (or SanDisk-depending on who replies) that you're going to run into problems, but the truth of the matter is people will reach this conclusion ONLY because they can't think of a better solution. So please, if you don't know, please say you "don't know", instead of spreading false information when you don't have a clue.

These boards are supposed to help people not misinform them!

Nobody is perfect, so every once in a while you're going to have a question where instructions can't help because everyone's PSP isn't "configured" the same way (e.g. CFW).
Homebrew programs constantly have different builds that aren't going to work with previous versions, so this is usually where everyone's problems start. (Well unless you didn't care to read or do any research yourself)

So these problems keep me coming back to the boards to read, I read boards more often than post so I can compare fact from fiction, however at this point I felt I should say something because if people keep asking questions and getting false answers everyone loses.

I think the best solution is for people to read the README.txt, follow it step by step, and then refer to tutorials on the boards for extra help!

PS. making sh*t up is not cool. thanks for reading!

Agree with the two above (Anto and Dr1ver).

But I would add that the gripes you have are all to do with the nature of forums in general - lots of well intentioned people trying to assist others that have similar problems that they have since resolved.

Sometimes it is inevitable that wrong advice is going to be given but I wouldn't like to think there is malice involved in deliberately misleading.

Who would do that?

I don't think I have ever noticed something like this on AD.

Forums are good and hugely helpful - providing opinions that may be different from your own but also providing information and advice that might get you out of a hole you could never manage on your own.

Ok i've calmed down now. To the credit of AD, this community has generally been the most helpful compared to other sites.
You're right, people don't mean to mislead, I just felt compelled to vent when i was surfing through other (unmentioned) PSP boards late night and saw the same faulty information being passed along by "expert" ranking members.
Forget I even said it. I think the AD community is a bit more seasoned that other "fan-boy" type forums.

**but let this be a lesson to the rest of you!

i have one like that. and it IS bought from a store. i DONT say that leXars are always slow, but my lexar is fake and slow,i think...its not MagicGate supported, and its much slower than my
...

i dont talk sh*t. buy lexars if you want. mine was a slo-mo edition.

edit - and yes i agree with first post. theres nothing wrong with lexar memsticks.mine only happened to be slow. and yes, they dont always have to be original sony. these sandisk and lexar sticks are just fine.

Agree with above. There are lots of counterfeit ones about. We got wise to the differences with the sony ones and the fakes, so the fake-makers have probably moved on to screening the labels of the lesser known brands.

I can tell the difference between originals and fakes from sony and san-disk... but with a lexar.. not a clue. It will probably be obvious from the performance tho..

I think lots of people give a generic reply which is supposed to go along the lines of "stick with the well known big brands.. the lesser known brands are just as likely, if not more so, to be fakes"

Don't believe that just because you bought it from a shop it will be the real thing either... We went through our stock of 10 or so sonys and found 4 fakes.

Rule of thumb? If it seems to cheap to be true it's a fake. Beware of buying on ebay unless the price is right, and you don't mind buying fakes ;)

All good advice.

I've bought two Sony memory sticks from Amazon (NOT the marketplace, but direct from Amazon) - they're both the genuine article and way cheaper than high street prices (almost 50% cheaper). I'm sure if you did get a duff one then Amazon would do the right thing.

Some fakes seem to work for some people but generally they don't seem to be worth the trouble they can cause with playing isos, saving data or making magic memory sticks. There are so many threads with people reporting problems with flashing cfw that turn out to be down to a fake memory stick.

I think the bottom line is that if it's magic gate supported then it's all good.
