Hey, i have a hitachi 78 drive. Last night was my first time flashing an xbox and everything went fine, got it into mode b using slax 2.1 cd. Then followed the steps..dumped firmware ie. So anyway, i guess, i accidently (not knowing) put the drive read speed at 5x. And now people are recomending 8x or 12x. This is a very easy thing to fix i know. all i have to do is put my drive back into mode b, follow all the steps than load my originol backup firmware, and then make a new firmware.
However the problem i am having is that i cant get into mode b. I got into mode b first try last night, (because my 360 is flashed). I have tried numerous of times. Textbook's guide says that to turn on your xbox at different times if its not working...i have done that and still nothing.
I get the "spinning up disc" message, so i hit open drive. but when it gets to the login screen and i hit open/close tray twice it closes but it doesn't reopen after a few seconds (which notifys your in mode b.
here is what i did with my 78
open DVD tray, place a DVD film in tray leave try out and turn the 360 power off on wall socket, boot pc and Xbox together closed tray and 360 was in modeb.
Windows detected and DVD was visible in my computer drive letter (F)
you need to Open 360 Firmware toolbox and reinstalled original.Bin from a previous flash.
I then followed the tutorial in the 360 T/B to continue the Flash with the updated ix 1.4_ 12x speed firmware included in toolbox.
also try to find the textbook hacking the 360 for Noobs that will show you stage by stage what to do.
okay so heres my question to you..did you follow the steps to put it into mode b( for example with the slax cd) or did u just put in a dvd and windows recognized it?
no, after trying to get back into mode b with slax i just gave up. So then i started up my comp, and when it got to the loading screen i put in a retail dvd and opened and closed my drive multiple times. My comp. recognized my dvd drive, so that was all i needed. I then used firmware toolbox to restore my orginol drive. And then i reflashed it putting the speed at 8.
Glad you managed to re-flash
Just for curiosity why did you flash on 8x speed not 12x speed
I was in two minds the other day to flash on 5x thinking 360 would be quieter
I personally think the new IX firmware seems to be quieter that the older firmware
My 78 is spinning really quite on 12x speed now
Cant here it
