Try another SD card if you get the ELF read error or stuck in a continuous loop.

I received both errors using a PNY 128mb card, however, my PNY 1gb and SanDisk 2gb Transflash w/adapter BOTH worked flawlessly.

The tutorial was very helpful. Question though, I have successfully used the TP+WAD installer method to install Comix Zone and Donkey Kong Country. Both work just fine. I tried to add Super Mario Bros. 3 and it gets hung up and fails to install. I forgot the exact error number, but it happens while trying to install the first section of data. Anybody experience anything similiar?

Also, what do you suppose the chances are of these VC games being detected, as they sit in the Wii's actual memory, doesn't that just scream "HELLO!!" to Nintendo?

You would think it would scream hello, but I'm not sure how much phoning home the Wii does. (Obviously less than the 360, or Nintendo cares less about "banning" consoles like MS does!)

I'm not sure how the content is setup that you purchase. I know that you are able to delete it and re-download from the Wii Shop, and I think that works kind of like a website. It logs you in and then checks it's database to see if what you are re-downloading was purchased or not. I don't see it scanning what you already have on your system (ie. games copied with the hack.) That's just my theory however.

There has been talk that Trucha signed games will be detected and won't work with future updates to the Wii's firmware, but I can't say so either way. Right now, Trucha is using one key to sign all of these files, however, now that the backdoor has been discovered, I'm sure it's not long before we find out how to extract our own Wii's key and then sign files as though they were our own! Just think, we could then copy the VC games, resign them and copy them back WITHOUT the Twilight hack! That would be pretty cool.

Does anyone think that this may be possible in the future? Afterall, they did find out how to unlock the key to Xbox hard drives.

you've probably installed an out-of-region game. NTSC VC games won't work on PAL consoles and vice versa

That would be so cool when it happens. And i think you're right - it won't be long now.

About VC games on your console, when the wii connects to wiishop i think your console is checked for tickets. if there are any, it will let you re-download games corresponding to those tickets. i've read that as of now nintendo doesn't check the authenticity of that ticket because hacked games installed (or even deleted) will show up as re-downloadable without need for wii points. (not advisable though cause as you mentioned, nintendo likely keeps a log of what you downloaded)

I suspect that while nintendo may be able to break it, at this point it will be like psp, a cat and mouse game. It probably won't be long until someone has a "re-signer" to make the VC game look like its yours. The only thing that would give it away would be if they checked dl'd vs what you have. I doubt nintendo will pull a MS and ban people outright. Xlive is, for a lot of people, an add on to play games online. Most of nintendo's stuff is strictly for money making and they wouldn't want to risk not making money from people, even if they are stealing(personally there are some games I won't ever buy from the VC shop but I would still like to play, but there are others that I would pay for). I would guess that they'll keep track of violators, and keep them from dling them from the VC shop without paying. For people concerned that they might be able to find out without logging onto the VC shop, Wii's network crap doesn't work that way. Its essentially web pages, not a pipeline to dedicated servers. The reason why Wii's multiplayer stuff bites, is the same reason why it'll be hard to hunt you down.

I haven't personally, but that is the big thing right now. Apparently the emulator for Sin and Punishment is very good for other roms, but right now it's mostly just a trial and error process.

I think I'm the only one trying this on sega genesis games right now. I think I'm gonna have to wait though becuase the methods I found for SNES and N64 wads dont seem to work for a genesis one.

If you want to install new games then yes, you'll need to twilight hack again. But once a wad is installed it runs just like a real VC title, no tricks involved.

Theres a good guide here http://wii.ds-scene.net/?s=viewtopic&id=508&p=1
Its pretty complex though and I dont know of anyone who's gotten it to work for anything besides N64 and SNES yet.

ok well i tried to go back to the wad installer v1.1 and still nothing. Do I have to do anything with the dol file that is in there or is there like a video I can watch with someone doing the computer part of this, because the only videos I find are the ones with the TP hack and beyond that point.

I am not too concerned with Nintendo finding out about the illegal VC game downloading. Wiiware downloading on the other hand, is a tricky situation. I got the japanese ping pong game on my wii, and deleted it quickly after because a) it wasn't that good of a game, and b) if nintendo saw I was playing it, who knows what they could do. I'm getting kind of nervous with the whole downloading situation, but I think the worst Nintendo would do it release a firmware update that won't allow you to play games that aren't with your ticket. That will work for a while, until someone finds out how to get a ticket signed to your name!

Hey all, here is my dilemma

I have been checking the info out on WADs from a variety of websites. I feel pretty comfortable in knowing that WADs are safe from bricking as long as you don't go messing around in the shop channel or accept a system update. I also know that online for the wii is a series of individually managed web pages and hosts (for games), unlike central servers like XBL. My question is, after installing a WAD, is it still safe to go into the Check Mii Out and Everybody Votes Channel? I assume there is no ticket check for those channels. I just want some reassurance from someone on these boards because my girlfriend and I would like to still use these channels and stay safe even if we start using WADs.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

There is no evidence to suggest that using any of the online channels will cause problems. In fact, I've been keeping track of these forums and I have yet to see a single person "get caught" by Nintendo. You can be sure that when/if Nintendo figures out how to disable these VC games, everyone will be buzzing about it.
