Can I use this $12.62 SATA PCI Card from DealExtreme to flash the firmware on my VAD6038?

I have an Xbox 360 Arcade with the Philips/BenQ/LiteOn VAD6038 drive. I don't have any SATA controller in my computer at the moment, so I'm thinking of buying this PCI expansion card from Dealextreme:
$12.62 VIA 4-Port SATA and IDE Expansion PCI Card
Do you guys think it will work? The card has one external connector so I can connect it to the Xbox without haveing the computer "open", which I think is a great feature.

Yes, as long as it has the VT6421 chipset you're good to go.

if you do go with that card, make sure you use the sata port on the 'narrow' end of the card, away from the metal piece that covers the back panel.

Why do I need to use that specific port? I want to use the one to the left i the picture, so I don't have to have my comupter opened while flashing.

bc i has to be on channel one, not channel 3 that the external sata port would be, thus making it useless and not working.

none will, as channel one is the most widely used ones, so it is reserved to internal devices such as HDs, burners, etc. i really dont see what the big deal of popping the side case off is though.

You should ground your pc chassis to the 360 chassis with croc clips so easier when pc side case is off

I had some trouble with my computer, never got around to ordering the SATA card but just recently rediscovered my need for flashing my Xbox 360. Do I need to use a SATA PCI card, or will a SATA USB adapter work? DX has this little thingy for only $8.62:
What do you think? Will it work?

order the card, the usb adapter would work for an older hitachi drive, but the benq pretty much has to have the via sata card to be flashed.

OK, I will order the card. Final question: Like I said earlier, I don't like the idea of running my computer without it's casing. So I want to use this SATA->eSATA bay + a eSATA->SATA cable to hook the SATA controller to the DVD drive. Is that okay, or will the length of the cables (or the transition from SATA to eSATA and back to SATA) mess up the signal so it won't work?

By the way, where can I get hold of a (cheap) croc cable to ground the Xbox 360 with my computer? DX doesn't seem to sell them :-(

i guess that array of cables going to external junk will work, i just dont see what the big deal about pulling the side case off is. and if you would just pull the side case off you could simply rest the 360 case on your pcs case and then it would pretty much be grounded that way. or just use a wire hanger and wrap it around part of the computer and around part of the 360s case.

It?s his junk he can do what he wants,
as for the wire hanger he might not be a cheapskate

whatever. don't see how using the hanger would cause him to be a cheapskate, it would just make him more resourceful, and not have to spend money when he doesn't need to.

yes i see your point, but for a few pennys he has the right tools for his first flash. if all goes well he can reap the rewards, he cant blame a short then with the hanger.
