Need help: Wiring my Xbox to my pc moniter

So ive finally decided that using my xbox 360 on my teeny tiny eye-strain-o-vision crt tv isnt doing it any justice, and probably isnt doing my eyes any good either, ive decided to move it over to my 19 inch flatscreen samsung moniter, and plug the audio into my speakers. Ive ordered all of the components that i think i'll need to do it, but i want to confirm this is right and will work, and wont blow up my pc, xbox or moniter, as theyre all fairly important to me.

1. Plug VGA plug into the back of the moniter
2. Plug a converter that will make the two stereo output leads into one 3.5mm stereo plug.
3. Use a female-female 3.5mm jack to connect the speakers to the xbox
or
3. Use a 3.5mm extension cord to plug the stereo output into the line in on my soundcard.
4. ?????

Thanks. One question i do have is if i plug my audio into my line in, will it immediatly output through the line out jack, or am i misunterstanding how this works?
