I have never updated my wiikey because I have never needed to update it, the games have always worked. After not burning games for a bit, I burned Super Mario Kart for wii and it wanted to perform an update on the system.

Is this ok?? Can I let the system update??

or

Do I need to perform some wiikey updates??

So long as the wii and the game are from the same region you can let it update.

You will probably need to update the wiikey, but I'd update the console and see if the game works first. Info on how to do wiikey updates can be found here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/597460
