Matshita isn't the greatest drive imho esp. for dual layer.
Try different media like verbatim but rated no higher then 4x for this drive.
Also check the laptop manufacturers site and see if there is a firmware update - there may not be one though.
i was successful before burning the japanese brawl

what am i doing differently.
For the log the only difference I see is the memory in use.
You have more memory in use in the log that failed so try closing any unneeded programs.
The media you are using may be hit or miss with this burner.
The discs you are using are made by RICOHJPN - newer dual layer media to the market. My guess is they aren't supported by the firmware of the burner. When they're not the drive uses a generic write pattern which may or may not be successful.
I have a Matshita drive and can tell you that media that was once successful isn't always the next time I use - even discs from the same spindle.
I would still try and switch the media.

For dual layer media it has to be verbatim, nothing else on the market comes close to it. The trouble is that the price reflects that.
I have to disagree with that, I am using a LG drive for Dual Layer burning and I tried Brawl with Verbatim every way possible but after 4 misses I went to BB and bought the cheapest Dual Layer that they had which was Dynex and at the first try with auto settings for burning, it works. This means that neither the drive or the disk is the only responsible for not working, the Wii drive has a lot to do with it.
