My family gets mad if I play my video games too loud, and it also disturbs them when I play at night. I want to get some headphones that'll connect to my tv/360/ps3 so I can play without disturbing them. I saw the Tritton AX360 but that's a bit expensive. Can anyone recommend some good gaming headphones at a decent price, or maybe some type of DIY mod to make normal headphones compatible with consoles.

The above is what i have and they are amazing compared to the stock headsets. You have separate volume control for the game and for the speach of other players and they are a world better then those one ear piece types sold. Worth every bit of the $60 you will pay.

Hmm those look good, but exactly how many cables will be running from my head to my 360? By my count it's 3:
-the power cable/usb
-the sound cable
-the wire connecting the headset to the controller
am I missing anything?

you will have one cord to the 360, and one cord from the mic to the little volume adjustment box. You can set them aside and they are not a problem really. They make a wireless version but those are $99 which i can not see paying. Then another comapany makes a set that has 4 small speakers in each ear so you get true 5.1 surround sound in your headphones, and those run between $120 and $150 which is also more then i wanted to pay.
There is one drawback that i have found though. To use these you have to hook up your 360 with component cables. I could not find a way to get them working when i was hooked up using HDMI. Because the RCA cables from the 360 plug into the one's from the headphone and then into the TV or receiver (like a piggy back sort of cord).
I can tell you that i went back to using the standard headphones one night, and man did they seem really bad after i had been using those Turtle Beach headphones. You have no idea how much you are not hearing in your game. It will take some personal tweeking until you get the game/voice volumes right where you like them but since they are both on the cord that you will have where you sit it is not a problem to make a quick adjustment. I can tell you that when the full game volume is all the way up it will blow out your ear drums, LOL.

Don't you have an Elite? Didn't it come with an audio dongle? Mine did. Then you could run the hdmi cable and separate audio.
If you don't have the audio dongle and want to use the hdmi, remove the plastic case surrounding the plug on a component cable. That will give you the room to plug in both the hdmi and the composite.

Yes, i have an Elite so i may have missed that audio dongle thing. I will check the box and see.
Since they are hopefully fixing my TV's HDMI port (which went out last week) i will have to rewire everything anyway back to HDMI like it was. That is a headache in itself.
Two 360, two DVD player, a satalite box, and more wires then i care to coun't now that i had to run everything with component cables.
The Turtle Beach site says this: So it looks like i need to find that dongle!
"The Microsoft Xbox 360 series of gaming consoles has allowed the use of
HDMI cables, for simpler hookup to home theater systems and Hi-Definition
televisions.
The Xbox 360 Elite (the black one) comes with an HDMI cable that also includes
a "dongle" which provides the dual RCA jacks needed for connecting our
Xbox-compatible headsets for game sound playback.
The older white-and-gray Xbox 360 models have an HDMI port, but did not
necessarily come supplied with an HDMI cable. Some companies make aftermarket
HDMI cables for use with the Xbox 360, but these may not provide the dual RCA
jacks that carry the 2-channel analog audio necessary for hookup of the Ear
Force Xbox-compatible headsets. If this is what you have, you may need to
find another way to connect your Ear Force headset and accessories."

lol looks like an awful lot of cords, i lust have a wireless controler and a stock headset and somehow i manage to get that tangled lol.

I think there's no way around the excessive cords unless you are willing to shell out $120 for a wireless headset.

so i went and got mine, not a big fan of all of the cords, but the sound is deffiantly nice, i havnt played anything yet, just tested it. thnx for letting me know this existed guys! lol i like the stick that came with it too, smacked it right on the box :)

yeah, like i said above, you really do not realize how much you are not hearing well with those stock headphones until you get a good set like Turtle Beach.

LOL, yeah. When i first got mine the game sound and voice were both on full. i had them on my head and turned on my game and about blew my ear drums out. Once i adjusted them a bit all was fine.
They did feel a bit odd at first being a full coverage over both ears, but after a few days now i do not notice them as i am use to them.
But i can surely say the sound quality alone is worth the $60 price tag on these headphones. First time i played Rainbow Six Vegas 2 with these on i was amazed, and racing games like PGR4 also sounded a world better. Not to mention GTA IV.

yes i have noticed a difference in how i play halo at night, i can hear foot steps, where gun fire is, and when someone comes up a grav life. very helpful.
