You don't need to use a Wii mat, just the Wii Balance Board itself. You can use any regular mat or just a hard floor.

sorry phrased it wrong i called it a wii mat when the correct term is balance board, the iso i use wont go past the sync balance board part, is it possible to do anything to get past this stage without balance board

No sorry you will need to purchase the balance board. If you just want to purchase the balance board alone then you could try places like Ebay.

It wont take long for aftermarket asian stores to sell the balance board on eBay. keep an eye out.
