Ok, I'm almost completely satisfied with modding up my PSP with whatever I need, at least to the point that anything else I want to do is a simple matter. But I'm not sure I quite understand how to do this, if it's even possible.
I want to do 'something' to create a file on my PC to simply store all of my old PSX backups that I'm currently in the process of making and put it so that they can be downloaded to my PSP from anywhere. I assumed the best method of doing this is via FTP if that were ever possible.
The FTP method, I found this: http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/pspftpclient.shtml and it can only be used on the 1.5 kernel which technically screws me since I'm using a slim. However with TimeMachine now out, it seems possible (and I have actually loaded some version of some firmware) to boot up the 1.5 kernel and run this.
Does anyone have any advice to get it working? Or even better an alternative that isn't so tedious?
The other solution I've heard of is iRshell, located near everywhere. But the only options I see that bringing (other than a really large applet of stuff that I won't use) is the ability to STREAM stuff from my PC via Nethost. I don't want to stream. I don't like the idea of things going sour when my internet connection plummets or while I'm driving. I'd rather just be able to just d/l to the card and remove from the card willy-nilly.
Am I misreading iRShell? Is it possible to FTP or physically move files to the PSP while using iRShell? Is iRshell 'really' worth it? Everyone talks about it XD.
If you're wanting local network access, then IRShell is the way to go. You can stream, but you can also copy/paste/delete files from your MS and the drive with nethost running. The speed isn't as fast as usb obviously but workable.
I haven't tried accessing my drive from the outside net, but I'm sure you can setup your public ip to allow port forwarding to the port irshell is using (google port forwarding instructions for your router) and use that ip in the irshell config (instead of your local ip). This may not work at all but I don't see why it wouldn't.
If I can't get the original basic FTP to work outside the network, i'll definately give it a look over. I tried for a while to find out if iRshell would let me just copy/paste/delete, but all they really talked about was streaming (which would be nice to setup, but not quite what I want).
Maybe I will give it a look over anyways, since I've still got a while til my 'hopefully real' MS gets in.

hehe, I guess I'm at your point, and using your link, i'm at the point that the user was at and most people are at.
I can access it locally now, and that's fun and good, but I would really like to access it from outside.
I registered for DynDNS.com and setup a hostname for my external IP address (found via a million different sites such as whatsmyip.com as well as DynDNS themselves). Set up my router to port forward that port (it was already setup when you had to set it locally anyways, so i didn't actually change anything here). Set up configurator to the hostname supplied by DynDNS, and no dice.
Is there any way to even test that anything sent to the DynDNS account is being sent to my computer? I have a feeling that it's there that the issue arises.
Anyone else on here had any success with externally accessing your PC with your PSP?
