Hi
Please bare with me very new to this. I received my new wii today fitted with the D2Ckey. When I went onto the shopping channel it told me I had to agree to thier terms and conditions which state that they will send updates automatically. If I agree to this so I can use the news and shopping ect could it damage my chip and stop me playing back up games. I would like to be able to access these channels but I dont want to break my chip. can someone please help I've read so many different threads about this but to be quite honest I dont understand them. I would be grateful if someone can explain in plain english.

plain english version:
At the current time there are NO UPDATES THAT DETECT MODCHIPS. This may change in the future but for now there are still NO UPDATES THAT DETECT MODCHIPS. Some games contain a diskcheck function that can detect older modchips, but no game or update has ever detected any of the D2C modchips.

I hope that is clear enough. :p

Hi Val,

I just got my wii chipped with D2Ckey recently but havent dared to go online to play backup copy of Mario Kart or tried the news/weather channel.

Can you please confirm if you have gone online since chipping and if it all worked fine.

Thanks

I can understand that some users post redundant threads. But having a redundant post in the same thread, that must be considered an art :)

and the real art is having subject matter not related in your thread.

The internet connection can be turned on without WiiConnect24. WiiConnect24 is the standby internet connection that is permanently on to allow the wii to update and recieve news/weather information.

I have discovered something as an acceptable option for those not wanting to have wiiconnect24 on all the time like myself. I turned in on in the settings so its active when the wii is online. However, when turning the wii off, hold the power button for 4 seconds bypasses the standby mode (yellow light) and goes off (red light).

If Wii is turned off at the wall, the WiiConnect24 option is OFF until you turn on the Wii again.
