A very wierd problem...

I had my benq drive flashed a while ago and everything was fine. I had a backup of gta iv and then started to play it for days and no problems. Then, today out of the blue, my loading times in gta iv were ridiculous. Texytures and roads would pop up. It was very bad. This has also happened to rainbow six. is it possible to go from a good backup to a bad one. All my other games load fine. Also i was thinking of switching my dvd drive in my xbox to a ms28...is that possible? I have both the drive keys. Thanks in advance.

I am using verbatim and a lit scribe 90$ 16x burner. but i burned the disc at 2.4x

it loaded up fine..and then the loading started to get longer so its not cheap media.

For GTA I'd recommend not playing backups, especially on BenQs. I hear the texture rendering problems are crazy.

scribe is garbage and 2.4x is too fast

Yet again another misinformed poster.
Finished GTA 4 on a benq with a backup.
No problems what so ever. Still playing it to pick up the things I "missed"......still no issues.
What am I suppose to be seeing?.......the game runs smoothly.
pfft.
Oh, and it was burned at 2.4x. soooooooo....what ever.

Ok 4X is also what i prefer to burn at. But it also depends on the max speed of your blank DVD. If your max speed is 6X or 8X then i would burn at 4X. Anything slower i would burn at 1X or 2.4X
And yes a good back up, even on good media, and even when burned correctly can go bad in a short time. see if there are any little scratches on it. That can surely cause a problem, especially with a game with such high graphical demands.
I had a back up of Rainbow Six Vegas that did the exact same thing and i had to make a second one.

Try making a copy of that disc onto another disc, but burn this one at 4X
It could be the discs, not all Verbatims are created equal. If they were made in India (ID MKM001 MII)rather then Taiwan or Singapore they are just not good quality at all. This is per tests by some very reputable CD/DVD sites.
Could also be your laser just being funny, but if all your others play fine but those two i would think not.

I'm with steimy on this. Poor disks can go downhill quite rapidly after they are burned.. it seems the dye isn't stable or the disks not sealed properly. I have fouing some particular "cheap and nasty" disks that code as cmc are great and some branded differently but coded the same that are junk.. it's a bit pot luck, d/l media is still a little unstable, it should improve as the format matures.
As for swapping the drives.. as long as both have the same drive key that goes with the mobo it isn't a problem ;)
