For the past 3 days I have been reading tutorials reading similar issues and I am, perplexed can not get my benq to be recognized. I have successfully flashed 4 Samsung drives had to do the 10 second power switch but eventually got it done. This benq won't flash. Used X360SAM for my sammy drives, and well never was easy, took several attempts but now same error over and over.0x7F with iprep, power on off does not work.
I have VIA RAID 3249 2 ports tried both any help will be much appreciated

That chipset may not work. I don't know.

With that said, I was told the nforce4 chipset wouldn't work for the sammy ms25/ms28 drives. Well, it didn't work with iprep so I looked into dosflash16 and it worked great for both. Might be the same for you.

For benq only the NForce and via 6420 chipsets will softflash the drive, there are many other compatible chipsets but it requires soldering a switch to the board.

I used Iprep also tried dosflash 16 used textbook. PDF and other various tutorials, it is still not flashing just hangs on 0x7F. I will try to use older version of Iprep, have not tried this yet. Thanks for suggestions.

You may try using another SATA port on your motherboard. I know I had a similar problem until my buddy said "why not try switching to a different port?", so I did and it worked like a charm. I have 4 ports on my motherboard and the two closest to the bottom of the chassis wouldn't work, but the top two would. Strange, huh?

Older versions are simply not going to work, read my previous post.
Just another suggestion is to make sure your using the correct port and port address for read/write access.
0x7f means it is not detecting anything on the listening port.

Glad to hear you got it figured out.

It would have helped to let us know ALL the details though lol. Leaving out things like...oh, I don't know...using the connectivity kit, it's hard to lead you down the right path.

You softflashed the drive with an ich9 chipset without having to solder a switch?

Hi, I've got the 0x7F error using iprep to try and flash a BenQ drive. I've tried booting up with the 360 on, no change, tried all sorts of power up/power down combinations, nothing works. I unplugged all my hard drives and dvd drives before attempting to run iprep in dos. The VIA 6214 CARD that I use is detected and installed properly.

I know that the 0x7f is telling me that it can't detect the drive or something. Is there any way to know if the VIA 6214 sata ports are active? Any program or util that can tell me?

I've got one of these XPS420 pcs, maybe that's the problem? It doesn't detect sata drives plug'n play, I have to leave them on on boot up. Could the turning on and off of the benq drive to flash mean that I can't flash it with this PC? I tried disabling onboard sata in the BIOS but that didn't help.

Hopefully someone who knows about this thing can help me out, cos it's really bugging me.

Hi snowman, good to see that we aren't alone with this problem.

What PC are you trying to do it on, sn0wman? Maybe we can at least narrow down the cause of this problem.

Here are a few things I can think of trying...

1. Dosflash16 instead of iprep, but I'm having problems making my pen drive bootable for dosflash, so I can't use this as I don't have a floppy drive to use with that HP utility that makes them bootable.
2. I've been thinking about installing the 6214 CARD on my old PC and trying to flash with that using iprep as usual.
3. Been thinking about the program called "FirmwareToolbox"? What does that do exactly? I've been looking for tutorials for it but I can't find anything.

At the very least if I can't flash this benq I really want to be able to dump the firmware with the drive key so I can swap it out and flash an older samsung or something, but I can't frigging dump either, it's strange how it just won't work.

PS. I installed blaster360 NE edition to try and flash with and it's so dodgy the 360 goes into red ring mode when the buttons on this thing aren't set exact. I had to take it off, it got jammed in the 360 and I was lucky to get the thing off too. Lucky that I did because it so happens this thing makes dumping firmware impossible and flashing even harder. Everything I've ever bought from team eXecuter has been crappy components that don't do as advertised, that just end up fucking up your console. A complete was of money.

Just thought I'd get that out my system.

Lol, I know how you feel mate, i flashed my hitachi 78 with firmware toolbox v3 without any problems but this little twat just wont do anything, my pc is an E.SYSTEM. I have looked at this DOSflash16 thing but dont like the sound of it partitioning parts of my pc, dont want it to bollocks it up. I also have no probs with my flash drive being made bootable?

So it's a benq drive that you're trying to flash also? And your PC has worked with other types of 360 dvd drive and that VIA CARD you're using has worked with other 360 drives too? So it can't be the PC or the card causing the problem, so I'm thinking it must be software compatibility with the benq drive.

Do you use the 360's power supply?
Does your PC have SATA plug and unplug support whilst the PC is on? I know mine doesn't, but surely this shouldn't make a difference to the drive flashing procedure.

My Benq was preflashed so whoever flashed it for me has successfully managed it obviously, so why the hell can't I flash it I wonder.

Is there any software to dump a 360 drive's firmware key whilst in windows? Does firmwaretoolbox do this? Maybe it'll work whilst in windows.

Yeh i use the xbox power supply, heres one YOU could try. Pull out the power cord which goes into your drive. Power up xbox and do everything it says using iprep upto where it says Do you want to resend the command until drive responds (Y/N) press Y and plug the power cable back into the drive. Hopefully it will start to toggle between 0x51 and 0xD1. If it does, count to 2 pull out again count to 2 again and put it back in again, should read banks. This was told to by someone on another thread that i started about 3weeks ago before he had a connectivity kit. Didnt work for me but might work for you guys!

I had alot of problems with my via 6421 card w/benq. After a very long time of trying different things I found a solid solution (for my problem of course). My card would detect the drive but it would not unlock it or toggle status. My solution was to do everything like you normally would. Resend the mtk info and turn the drive on. At that time I will just let it sit, I can then push the power button on my pc a couple times and it will toggle status. I about shit when this worked because it was taking me a really and I mean a really long time to work with benq's before that.
My suggestions to you is to first make sure that dosflash is patched with the correct port address of your card.
Try manually using dosflash 16
Try your card in a different pc.
You could also try dosflash 32, never had any luck with it besides once but I guess its worth a try.

Well I've made some progress but it's still not working right

I tried the internal sata port on the card with a different sata cable, booted up the 360's power at start, then booted the pc..

then entered serial etc.. got to the mkflash resend part and pressed y,

then I plugged the sata cable into the back of the drive and it started flashing D1 as it should..

then I turend it off, waited 4 sec, powered up again and it started reading the banks and I'm thinking yes it works.. then.. it reports the reading finished..

but firmtool doesn't start :s it just hangs there and nothing happens

any ideas on what's causing this?
