Ok I am able to hook up my VCR and play a video and have it play on my screen and I can record and save it on my hardrive. I have WinXP with the Winfast PVR Tv-Tuner and am using the software that comes with it. My question is now how can I burn this onto a DVD i am a lil confused the manual doesn't go into much detail. Capture options etc. Please help Thanks
Well It depends on what capture options you are useing??? A Compliant DVD File has to be 720+480/576-PAL Mpeg2 at 23.976fps with 3:2 Pulldown or 29.976fps for NTSC and 25fps for PAL and the audio needs to be either Wav audio or Mpeg1 Layer 2 audio or AC3 dolby digital Audio at 48000hz ,Your Choice but the AC3 is the best Format and after that the "Mpeg1 Layer 2" audio is Best and wav audio would be the last Choice because the File sizes are too huge....So if you have the Option to capture to Mpeg2 at 720+480/576-PAL with a bitrate under 9800kbs (6000kbs is usually good)Then you can Capture a DVD Compliant Mpeg2 file...After you can captured your File useing these Perameters you will need a DVD authoring program to Format the File with any Menu"s and Chapters that You choose into a "Video_TS" Folder that gets Burned to DVD-R in DVD Video Mode...An easy DVD Authoring Program to use is "Tmpgenc DVD author" and one that is more complex but it is still easy to use and Produces some very Nice looking DVD"s is called "DVD-Lab".....If you do not have the Option to capture to Mpeg2 useing those settings then choose an AVI format Like the "HuffYUV" codec useing the same Resolution and Frame rates and then you would have to use a Software Mpeg encoder to encode the captured file to DVD Compliant Mpeg2, a Good Mpeg encoder that is easy to use is "Tmpgenc"(Different from TMPGEnc DVD author)

Ok I am using the software that came with the tv tuner I haven't messed around with the options yet. I am able to play a VHS on my computer but I can't get any audio to play. I don't understand what is wrong I followed the instructions that came with the tuner and there is nothing showing that I hooked it up incorrectly. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks
Well Make sure the Audio is Plugged into the "Line In" Port on your Sound Card ,And Make sure your Audio Settings are Configured to Record from the "Line In" port and that the Line In Volume is high enough to Hear it and capture...You can adjust the setting to capture from the Line in port by going to your Audio properties by going to "Sounds & Audio Devices" in your "Controll Pannel" or just Right clicking the Volume Icon in your TaskBar and going to "Adjust Audio properties" then go to the "Voice" heading and under "Voice recording" click the "Volume" button and one or more Dials should Pop up and One of them should be labeled "line In" so make sure there is a Check mark in the "Select" Box and Put the Volume at about 70% and then that should do it, you can close all of the Audio settings windows and try to capture and if you see a setting for the audio source in the capture Program make sure it is set to Line in also...Generally speaking the Software than comes with Most capture devices for captureing Video suck pretty Bad and will only do the Most Basic of Captureing ,You might be better off looking for a Different Capture Program ,A good one for Directly to Mpeg1/2 VCD/SVCD/DVD Capture is called "InterVideo WinDVR 3.0" which might be a Good choice for you as it Produces good Quality compared to other Mpeg capture Programs and it is easy to use, But you need to have a Very Fast PC to capture Hig resolution Mpeg2 files with it ,Like at least 2.0ghz, But for the very Highest Quality it would be best to get a Good AVI Capture program and do any Mpeg encodeing with a High Quality software encoder
So I should not use the capturing software that came with my card? Do they sell Intervideo WinDVR 3.0 in stores? Also What do you suggest is a good High Quality software encoder? Thanks. My Comp is considered 1 Gig or 997Mhz. So I guess that capturing program is no good? Thanks
Hi, Intervideo WinDVR Is mostly sold on line and it comes with some capture devices ,A good Software Mpeg encoder would be something like TMPGEnc or the Mainconcept encoder...You PC isn"t really fast enough to Capture Full resolution Mpeg2 useing a Mpeg 2 Capture program and even a software encoder to encode Captured DV AVI files would be quite slow..You might consider Upgradeing to a More modern faster PC ,You can More than double the speed of your PC for about $100 ,You can get a New Athlon XP 2200+ with a new Motherboard for under $100, I picked up an Intel 2.5ghz CPU with a Good ECS Motherboard with an 8X AGP and Ata/133 for $115 US Plus shipping of course ,That is Quite Cheap cuz the CPU"s cost more than that retail ,I have hooked up a couple poeple here on this forum with the guy I get my Motherboard/CPU combo"s from so if you are interested I can hook you up with him..You will really notice the differance going from a 1ghz PC to a 2.0ghz or a 2.5ghz PC and you would never have to worry about haveing a PC that was slow on performance again...well good luck...Cheers
I just installed the Leadtek 2000XP expert tuner and Winfast PVR. I hooked up my old Betamax to start converting tapes to DVD, but I can't get my XP based system to capture any sound. The input from the VCR is via the SVHS connector that comes with the board (it has three RCA input jacks as well as the DIN connector, for that purpose). I have the sound OK when I am in play mode, but as soon as I try to capture anything the sound isn't there. I have tried settings "line in" "aux in" and "video" as my sound input fields. The only thing I noticed is that when I downloaded updated drivers from Leadtek, they came with an illustration showing a WDM audio capture device in the Windows system settings, but when I go in and check my device list, I do not have such an item. Leadtek have not responded to my query on this. Do either of you guys know what might be wrong here?
