Alright, so I have a 360 with a broken Hitachi drive, that I cannot repair, and cannot extract the key. Sad thing is I already bought a TS-H493 drive to replace it, but it obviously can't read games without the key. So now I got a new 360, and this drive is sitting here collecting dust. Can I use this drive powered by my old 360 to backup my games, even without the key? If yes, tell me what I need to do. Sorry if something like this has been posted a billion times but I can't find anything for the TS-H493 drive specifically, thanks for the help!
I know it won't work for actually playing games, but can't i just flash it with some other firmware to get it to backup games just on my computer, or will it not even read it then? I've heard of Kreon, but can't find it for TS-H943.
find out which hitachi drive you have, buy that EXACT SAME DRIVE take the PCB board from the 'broken' drive, put it in the 'new' drive, and it should work as it did before it was broken. this is assuming that your PCB is still good, and that its not fried/broken.
these threads makes me wish they were here for me to test lol.
What is the issue with the hitachi? why can't you get the firmware off of it? But more importantly, why don't you have a backup of the original firmare? This wouldn't even be an issue if you had that. You could inject your key from the hitachi into the new drives firmware and spoof the hitachi to your sammy.

Yes. You need to be able to power and eject the drive. So you can use the old 360 to do that. You'll need to flash the drive with 0800 firmware. You can get that bundled with the old Xtreme firmware.
Don't forget, you'll need to keep a video cable plugged into the 360 so it won't shut off. The cable doesn't need to be plugged into a tv, just into the 360.

The issue for the hitachi is that nothing works, it was my cousins xbox, who sent it to me because he kicked it over XD. I'm just getting into the whole xbox repair/modding business so when i recieved it, it read games, but i didn't know what to do, and chance has it by the time i figured you need it to read a disk to backup the original firmware it stopped working. Lazer stopped moving, the motor spins ocassionally, and the board smokes sometimes XD. I just wanted to know if I can at least use the xbox to power the new drive i got to create backups without the key :D.
I'll see what I can do with the firmware that bhetrick suggested, thanks guys.
