I have a PALwii, from japan. I sometimes use "backuped" pal games and burn them with nero. most of the time they work just fine, but recently i have been getting black screen lockups, just after i press the NEXT button( this button is in japanese,, so im not sure if it really says next, or ok or whatever) after loading the channel(whcih load a ok, with the splash).
I was wondering if its the game itself that is labeled PAL, but really isn;t or if there is a difference between japanese pal and euro pal..
Secondly i was wondering if there is and PC software that can test the DVD for regions.
perhaps its a matter of outdated chip software, but im pretty sure my is the latest, having brought it in for an upgrade last week.
As far as I know Japanese Wii systems are only NTSC.
So if you bought it from Japan and the menu is in Japanese then more then likely it is a NTSC(J) system.
You can find this out by going to system settings and checking in the top right hand corner. If the letter is J then you have a Japanese system which is NTSC not PAL. If the letter is E then you have a PALWii system.
If this is a NTSC(J) system then the PAL games you are trying to play may not be region compatible.
thats strange.. well some PAL games are working for sure.. is it possible for PAL to work, sometimes, in a NTSC sys?
ive been burning pal only games and most have been working.
i live in Taiwan, and i know forsure its japanese.. i bought it before chinese system release, and im certain all the menus are Japanese.
HOWEVER, recently i did, well "a friend" did an auto update and now my system menu is inacessable. so i can;t answer your question as to the "J" or the "E".
The lasted game i burned was a PAL version of Mario Galaxy, the NTSC ones i had burned before didn;t work, but they were prior my update, at my hardware supplier.
you have an ntsc-j system. however, you can still play pal games. first thing you should do is get a game with the latest japanse game auto update on it, which will fix youre white screen, so you can access settings. Then when you burn pal games-use regionfree+brickblock
Not all PAL games are region compatible with NTSC systems.
You will want to go HERE and look up the game. It will tell you if it is compatible or not. There is a list for NTSC(U) to NTSC(J) and PAL to NTSC(J). So make sure you look for the game under the corresponding region that the out of region game disc is.
Example: If it is a PAL game then look under the list of PAL to NTSC(J). If it is a USA game then look under NTSC(U) to NTSC(J) list.
As asif500us stated above you have semi-bricked your Wii settings. You will need to wait till Nintendo releases a Jap game disc that has a higher firmware before you can unbrick the system settings.

I checked the compatibility list, and it seems that almost all ntsc-u/c games are compatible with the japanese ones, so i suggest always getting only ntsc ones and not pal
in regards to the Firmware.. does that newer game have to be an orginal copy, or can it simply but a burnt game. and where, if anywhere, can i find out when if and when a new game is/will be available
US/PAL Super Mario Galaxy is Not Compatible With a Japanese Wii as well as several other games from Nintendo. These games when burned the Wii can detect the game at the channel menu, but after you press the ?Start? button, the game simply doesn?t load and leaves you with a black screen, cuts off your Wii remote and you have to restart the Wii all over again. HOWEVER there is a solution and I will guide you to doing this. Firstly you will need a few programs to change settings in the ?iso? so go get em
1) First program you will need is ?Trucha Signer? you can get the torrent here http://www.sumotorrent.com/en/details/10...tream.com].html this torrent also comes with ?wiiscrubber? but you dont need that. You need the ?key.bin? and make sure the ?key.bin? file is in the same folder as Trucha Signer folder or you will get an error message saying ?error decrypting data?
4) The 4th program is not necessary but I highly recommend it as if you don?t use this program there is a possibility of Bricking your Wii...anyway the program is ?Wii Brick Blocker? get it here http://wbb.rockman18.com/?page=home&ln=en
Ok Here we go step by step..Let?s say you just downloaded ?SuperMarioGalaxy-USA-Wii? doesnt matter if its Pal you just want it to work on your Japanese Wii.
-Open up ?Trucha Signer? Click Select KeySet and click on Custom Keyset1.
-Now click on Image and Open ISO locate your ISO and open. Now in the white bellow, expand disc till you see 2 Partitions, expand the second one, then expand SYSFILES then right click on ?main.dol? and extract this file to the ? wii game language patcher ? folder.
-Now in the folder Drag&drop the main.dol to wglp.exe . In the wglp Select a language (For example, if you patch an NTSC-U or Pal game, please select [1] en) and hit any key to finish.
-Now open up ?Generic Wii Patcher? Before you can use any option you need to load a (main).dol file by clicking on open. Now under the? Error 001?Just hit "Search" and let the program (hopefully) find the drive check. After that just hit "Remove 001".
-Now under the ?Console language detection? Again just hit search and wait for the search result. Just select the game's language from the dropdown list which in this case is English and and press "Patch to new language". Now your finished click ?save?
- Go back again in Trucha Signer that was never closed and right click on the main.dol and replace it with the one in the wii game language patcher folder. Now right click on the second PARTITION and click Trucha Sign it!
-Now if you want you can open up Wii Brick Blocker locate the image and patch it to remove any updates that might cause the game to Brick your wii.
-After that you will want to burn the ISO with ?ImgBurn? open it select Write image file to disc, find the iso and burn it and a low speed, I recommend 2.4x
After that you are done with a working copy of the game that was giving you a black screen before.
This will work on all console wii?s that have the problem with the black screen when loading
