Hey guys,
SO the title pretty much says it all. I recently installed a solderles D2C wii clip. Everything seemed to go well. I put it all back together and the system powers up fine but the drive wont accept a disc. It physically will not go in. Everything appears normal but I am very new to the wii mod seen that perhaps I am overlooking something simple. I havent tried removing the DVD ROM again but maybe thats what I need to do. Perhaps one of the two connections are not making contact. Any ideas?
THanks,
aaragon

Ok, next problem. I just popped the brown retaining clip of off the flat ribbon cable connector in the PCB. Any ideas on this one?

Ok, fixed the retaining clip. Verified the seating of the solderless wii clip ( it seemed to snug up a bit) and reattached the DVD. Should the DVD load/eject when I apply power or does the console need to be fully assembled first? Gonna leave it alone for a bit maybe something will come to me ;)

No it can have all cover off and it works fine. On the other hand I do have the same problem as you. I did remove the D2pro and my drive load fine again (at least regular games no backup of course). I noticed that the D2pro has a red LED that is constantly on. If anybody has a solution let us know.

Hmmm,
I havent noticed a LED but I will take another look. From the sound of things it seems as though its a seating problem. Ive heard that these solderless connectors as fidgitty. Ill take it apart again later and see what I can come up with.

Here are a few more facts if this can help. I am running my Wii without any problem as far as my regular games when I have my chip off and I have not put any screws back yet, but as soon as I plug my solderless back, the drive stops going through its routine on startup and it loads nothing, I can still run my Wii channels just fine as well as my little downloaded games but the drive is unresponsive, I take it off and back to normal. I did an update but my firmware was already the same one. I flashed it anyways but no better results. At one point the chip did work for about a day with burned games. The next day as I was going to play, our problem started and since then I probed and rechecked and try to trouble shoot but nothing beside the above observations. Have fun and let me know if you find solutions. My D2pro is the 9 wire version.

Guys/gals,
The Wii clip IMO is crap. Either solder the chip in yourselves, or send it to a professional. There are many out there. You just have to find one you trust. Check for references and save yourselvs the headache. Trust me, it will save your sanity!!!
Mod your gaming console today!

This is for argon, to me it sounds like when you re-assembled the wii you did not re-connect not only the ribbon PCB that you talk about, but the power cord as well, its a white roughly 12 wire plug that is really hard to get back in without the ROM being mostly in place. Thats my sugestion for you, The rest of you are not haveing this problem as far as i can tell from your testing.

Mate, sorry to dissapoint you but i am an IT technician and i have been making computers all of my life. I test my wii while it is open. When the clip is on it wont take in disks but when u take it off the dvd drive starts spinning and you can insert disks...

Nik - how "new" is your Wii? Could it be a D2C2 that needs the D2Pro v2 chip?

My wii is a D2b chipset. I have contacted the wii-chip company and they said it was proably a faulty chip. I have sent my wii drive to them and they are going to fit a new one free of charge :)

hey guys, i had the same problem with my d2pro9 and wii clip. theres 2 test points next to each other on the clip itself, try bridging those two points with a small screwdriver and hold it there. then try to load a game. this worked for me so i just bridged the two points with solder and it works perfect.

ugh, i really wouldnt want to pull the wii apart again, but you cannot miss it, its the only test/solder point on the wii clip.
heh, well looky here, its right on wii clips web site now,
if bridging the test point doesnt work, it requires another wire to be hooked up.

Has anyone had an issue with the Wasabi and the clip? I am having the same problem where the drive won't load disk unless I take the clip off. I have tried the longer clock wire and the 47uf capacitor and still no luck.

Hey BestBuy,
Your Wasabi may never work if you have a D2C2. You'll have to get
the D2Pro V2. Your chipset can say D2C but it could very well be
D2C2. If you've tried the longer CLK and the cap and neither worked you probably have a D2C2. How old is your unit?
