Los Angeles thinks piracy is a ?public nuisance?

Citing ?minor input? from the MPAA and RIAA, the Los Angeles County government has now added piracy to its definition of ?public nuisance", meaning all properties used in the dissemination of counterfeit goods can now be seized.
Physically pirated goods, such as bootleg DVDs or CDs, are now considered to be the same as counterfeit watches or handbags.

and lets see them try to inforce this because more and more people are using illegal means and some of these counterfiters are so good that you cannot even see the diffrence.

if it's anything like the sort of law we have here with drugs,
it means that they can almost seize everything a "pirate" owns.
if you're caught making bootleg media, then they can take your car since it transports the media and you.
they can take your house if you made sales out of it or used it as a facility to create bootlegs.
although i can see the possible legitimate applications for drug dealers being busted,
the similar laws we have against even drugs seem awfully...socialist to me.

Most of the people arrested for music and video piracy in the state of Kalifornia are in fact MEXICAN nationals. Local newscasts regularly show police and RIAA/MPAA raids at flea markets. Few white, black or even Asian people are arrested for these crimes.
The Salinas and Santa Cruz flea markets (300 miles up the coast) were raided in recent weeks. More of the same there too.
Los Angeles won't even enforce the FEDERAL gun control laws. Illegal aliens, who commit crimes with illegal firearms are not turned over to be deported for those VIOLENT felonies either. No wonder they have gang wars and drive by shooting almost every night. People actually die in vain; because those IDIOTS in city hall are afraid of being called names!
Kalifornia prisons are full of those MEXICAN MAFIA and NUESTA FAMILIA organized crime groups. El Salvador's MS-13 gang is even worse. They fight behind bars and on the streets. Not much will happen, when they realize that the same guys are peddling bootleg CDs and DVDs...

It should be obliterated, like Berkeley, Hollywood and most of the upper east coast of America.

He is pissed off that in his opinion criminals are not being deported because of their nationality. He said that the problem is just being ignored because the people in power fear a backlash from voters if they say anything. A bit like the way you just jumped down his throat, as a pose to even start to acknowledge that there may be a grain of truth in what he says (not everything though!).

ya but he is going offtopic, the tone of the post feels like "ZOMG the evil mexicans", I see his points but I also see him ranting offtopic.
frankly for me the US is good enough to not "deport all aliens" at the same time the illeagles are screwing the subtle balance sates and cities have to take care of them selfs the balance of population is more of an issue than taxes or even "criminals", until the goverment can sort and ID these people if they are not a criminal give them temp papers and send them back to work with garnished wages the US needs money and workers more than people tied down with 10 year+ redtape.

this response is even more ridiculous. you actually think that the anti-alien community is the underdog in the whole thing? Its amazing how people only view things from their own perspective. If you think everyone should feel sorry for the anti alien community for being discriminated against, you are not the brightest either.

The legislation in NY has actually done ALOT to stop counterfeit goods from being sold on the streets of NYC. Of course there are people still selling pirated DVDs but nowhere in the abundance that it was 2 or 3 years ago.

I went to CA in 2000 and was surprised at how many spanish peeps were at the mall. I was walking around and I was the only white guy there. This was in Bakersfield, near Los Angeles. My friend who was a kindergarten teacher said 99% of her students were spanish, and their parents thought it unfair to learn English.
They really shouldnt stay here unless they want to learn English. This aint a bilingual country. English is the language of business.

Did they really make english the language of the US? But you can also do business in spanish cause sometimes in the resturaunts they run you can only pay in THEIR currency. Its stupid to send your kids to school in a different country and not want them to learn the language that everyone speaks there.

I am just wondering...Who are the numskulls that even buy bootlegged DVDs? Probably burned on a CMC.Mag disc at X20 speed!!
I mean, Red Box nowadays it has been popping up at every street corner...A rental is $1, a blank DVD is $0.25, more or less- how much cheaper can a bootlegged POS can be? Who are the idiots buying those? And for CD's...you can Google and get almost any song you want, why would someone pay even a cent for a bootlegged CD?!

Quite possibly.. or they are the ones selling them.....
There are plenty of people I fix tv's and microwaves and the like for who don't have computers. It's about 50/50 in the uk by household.. But I'm trying to help by recycling old p3 systems into homes at minimal cost.

My PC is a 7 y.o (maybe 8) Gateway, 950MHz AMD. I got it for free(someone was throwing it away about 3 years ago. I have only invested in some RAM a burner and a mouse! It does all that I need.
The internet is free at Public Libraries and Community Colleges. That's how I stay up to date with my software during summer time when I take a job somewhere away...
This might be a reason for buying a bootlegged DVD:
