OK, this could be me hitting the pot of gold, or me sounding like the worlds biggest noob. I'm hoping its the first. This could already have been tried by DarkAlex and other hackers.
When using the PBP unpacker, i unpacked a PBP, was editing an SFO, and realised i had opened a firmware update by accident. The update was 3.80.
Now, one of the editable parts is what version it is. That got my curiosity going and i changed it from 3.80 to 3.95. I then put the eboot onto one of my PSPs which runs 3.90 official firmware. I then tried to boot the eboot, and it would have let me run it, but i didnt proceed, wanting the advice of proper hackers before hand.
Now, if I changed a piece of 1.50 firmware's SFO to say it was 3.93, and then loaded it onto a PSP, would it technically be a 1.50 psp? or would this not work.
If it worked, and a 3.95m33 was released, this could allow 3.90 users to technically downgrade and put custom firmware on, yes.
This all sounds plausable in theory, but it may not work for any number of reasons, so I am here to seek an expert opinion.
If its electric, I can hack it. I think.

no it wont downgrade any 3.90 psp's to 1.5.
You're just editing the SFO file not the DATA.PSAR which contains the
update file or it is the update file.
So don't bother to try it or maybe it will cause errors.
Want ISO's Rip them from the UMD.

Cheers...
Oh well. Does anyone know if a direct 3.90 downgrade is being developed or is Pandora gonna stay as the downgrading method.
If its electric, I can hack it. I think.

No. Why would they? Pandora works, nothing else is needed.

Make it yourself its quite easy. Download PBP unpacker, and from there you can extract and edit each part of any upgrade or eboot.
If you create the eboot from an non homebrew eboot it doesnt need CFW to run either, unless you inject unsigned stuff into it.
If its electric, I can hack it. I think.

You can do that anyway already, via mrgooey's suggestion (not possible on recent firmwares, due to hidden files) or a plugin called flashless firmware changer.

Yeha, but you have to show the hidden files, right? Tweaking a setting on the cpu?

Mhmm....thats what I thought. Thanks :)
But the vchanger plugin is much easier, in my opinion...not that hexing is hard. I've used both ways and the plugin way is easier.
