Pardon my ignorance but this is my first week of owning a PSP for the very first time so bear with me if this sounds noobish. Got a few questions to ask
Q1. I checked my PSP and the system firmware is 2.60. I bought this psp from one of my colleague (it's an old one not the slim one). I own a game called "Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects". When i try to play it via UMD, there's a little icon which says "PSP Update ver 1.52". What is that for? will it update my system firmware back to 1.52?
Q2: This question relates to Q1. Assuming that my psp firmware will be downgraded from 2.60 to 1.52, will it be the case that i will be unable to play any games which are of later version?
Q3. How efficient it is to downgrade and upgrade versions for every game i play?
Q4. How can i know if i can play homebrew games on my PSP? Do i need to check something on my PSP.
Q5. What is TA-82? how do i check my psp for that?
Many thanks for listening to all this noobish talk :-) Appreciate your help guys.
Answer 1: Its for upgrading to version 1.52 and No it wont. some Psp games come with software to upgrade your psp. Its a little way for SONY to fight hacking and piracy.
Answer 2: If that was the case you wont be able to play games of later version unless you update.
Answer 3: I wouldnt recommend doing that for it could cause your psp to brick and therfore become unusuable. I recomend modding it to where you can play emulators n roms on it.
Answer4: You need to hack your psp to be able to play homebrew on it.
Q4 - if you are on 2.60 then you can use the 2.60/2.71 downgrader if on 2.80 you can use the 2.80 downgrader if on 3.03 then you can use the gta lcs 3.03 downgrader if on 3.50 the use the luminus downgrader anything above and its pandoras battery
if you want to play the new games after you downgrade to 1.50 you can install cfw which is basicly a mix of 1.50 fw and another fw say 3.90 so you will be able to play iso/homebrew but still play games that need fw 3.90 or less google 3.90m33 for more info on that
Q5 - this relates to the motherboard model as they are all designed a bit different with different flash chips and bios chips inside so some have a problem with downgrading with downgraders but this is no worry as TA-082 is fine and is now a very old motherboard so its been modded for ages
have you checked to see what motherboard version you have?
if not a TA-082 motherboard will have gold writing in the top right hand corner of the umd drive. you can take it appart as well and it will be on the motherboard.
hope that helsp explain it a bit clearer
ps i dont know if the mods will like the thread titel so id change it to be on the safe side so the thread doesnt get closed
change it to something like downgrading from 2.60 with TA-082 (if it is)
No, a IC9001 is not a TA-082. You got a IC9001 psp.
Quote: Q3. How efficient it is to downgrade and upgrade versions for every game i play?
I also forgot to mention that once updated, you dont need to downgrade your psp to play older games. You only need to update to play newer games that come out. The only reason why you would need to downgrade is if you are going to install cfw, hack the psp, ect.
Like Dr1ver said, if you are planning to play hombrew and still play psp games then look for cfw (custom firmware). You can search afterdawn for tutorials. Go here for psp goodies.
