The announcement earlier this year by Blockbuster that they were interested in buying the faltering Circuit City consumer electronics chain were largely greeted by skepticism over the video rental giant's ability to finance the $1 billion bid. But at least one major player, Hollywood Video founder Mark Wattles, is more optimistic about the deal's potential.
Wattles, whose Wattles Capital ... [ read the full article ]

I for one have never liked the city!
They have the worst customer service along with the worst employees around compared to other electronic stores. I once stood around in the TV section for over 30 min and not on person come to ask if I needed a TV. I went over to Best Buy and got the same TV and they not only price matched they dropped another 130 bucks of the price, 1000 dollar TV price matched at 900 took off another 130 to pay 770. Its nice when people know your face because you shop their a lot and they give you great deals. The city never had a chance and I for one hope they go under they deserve it. Nothing better than having and employee throw something at you while you looking through the store and they all run and the manager does nothing about it, so many experiences at the city.
Burn Circuit City Burn!

I still don't see what Blockbuster has to gain from this. 1 billion dollars to buy a company that is already dead, just to open some more brick and mortar stores to rent videos. Not a good financial move. They would need to find ways to compete more against Best But than anyone else. Blockbuster doesn't have any experience with that market. They can compete with Netflix (barely) and Hollywood video, but Best Buy is a totally different giant to knock off. Neither companies listen to their consumers very well.

Burn Circuit City Burn!
And this reply is why you're a technological GOOF!!!
First..........price has nothing to do with customer service and Circuit City would have done THE EXACT SAME if your situation were reversed.
Second, regardless of your isolated situation, CC has way better cust. service than BB. BB has even been criticized by major reviews. In addition, they are way larger with a bunch of 16 year olds working there with a lot less experience and "professionalism" than CC.
Your case has no merit and now neither do you. Next time you rag on cust. service use legit scenarios because it can only be assumed that you weren't approached at CC for probably the same reason you wouldn't be at a high end store like Tweeter................Because you look like you don't have a clue!!

I would not miss Circuit City if they went away.Like the guy above said about the poor customer service plus the fact too many people have had bad expriences with the mail in rebates on top of that.Blockbuster needs to reconsider what they want to purchase and just stick with rentals(improve that market first).Let Circuit City go the way of Compusa(well most of the stores anyways)and be gone.Online sales are picking up more than ever at this point where a person can save a ton of money, get free shipping(sometimes)and not be hounded about service plans. The downside would be if the customer wasn't tech savy to know exactly what to look for.

Someone is in a bad mood today.
Do you want me to change your diaper for you.
Strange why you personally attacked me and I did nothing to you.
And I guess I don't know anything about electronics and I have been building and repairing PC for over 10 years. I love A/V and I setup my own home theater. I guess I'm a big dummy, but your the one who personally attacks people.
Grow up and get a life!

Because there is the "way things are" and the "way things people interpret them" and Circuit City has never encountered so many complaints as BB has...............STATISTICALLY .Your comment(s) are lame and you probably look like a technological goof from a mile away. Just don't go to Tweeter because you will be standing there with your thumb up your hoo-ha for a long time. Sales assoc. will look at you and think "he must be here to buy a sandwich, and not electronics."
Again..........PRICE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE! Poor argument.
Although I like to visit BB, if I have a choice, CC is the one with higher end equipment (not including the failing Magnolia), more educated, experience, seasoned and intelligent employees and more personal attention. Generally BB is for white trash (CD, DVDs and parts, cameras excluded) and those that are technologically inept........Is this you Solo?? Now now.....don't be afraid to admit you were BSing us about your "10 years of experience". 10 years my ass. Feels good to make yourself feel good about yourself huh???

Don't let the troll get to you, you are playing into his immature game.
I said it in the initial thread that covered the acquisition....this is a horrible business venture. Two losing companies coming together will not magically create a new successful company. Management needs to get their crap together and create something unique that actually makes people want to visit BB or CC....poor customer service and extremely overpriced rentals aren't the answer.

Ooooooh..........so you were able to successfully plug the red RCA output into the red RCA input and do the same to the white ones too????
You want a medal for plugging in your dvd player and sat. receiver??
BB is just the place to make you feel good about yourself for accomplishing that. They'll give you a medal I'm sure.

No worries
I had a similar experience at CC, it was around Thanksgiving and I went to buy a new hdtv, the store was more or less empty, yet it took about 15 minutes for the employee who was playing Guitar Hero to realize I needed assistance. Can't speak for Best Buy, but that experience was a bit off putting.

I dont get it... this is confusing! Anyways, Blockbuster would have nothing to gain if they bought Circuit City. I was at Blockbuster a week ago, and it was 'expanded', I asked the front desk person if they bought blockbuster, and they said no, so Blockbuster where I live is expanded enough! Movie posters, Blu Ray movies, big video game and movie selection, video game systems... they got it all

three words for people who like Circuit City:
mail-in-rebate.
not only does that make CC instantly f'ing horrible but the prices are about the same. If you want just price, go to Fry's Electronics.
As for customer service, Fry's is the worst which i can't comprehend because they have way more employees that stand around then BB does, and they still don't help you. They usually leave their position and group together to socialize.

Speaking from personal experience, I've come to dislike CC as well. Earlier this year they had a problem where they accidentally advertised a laptop they were selling as free on their website. I decided to call the order number for the heck of it (it couldn't be ordered online) and ended up having a very redundant conversation with someone from India about how it was an error and they weren't going to honor the advertised price. (I have nothing against people in India, but let's face it, CC doesn't prepare them to take care of anything other than the simplest problems. That, and sometimes the accents can be a little hard for me to understand.)
So, we went through the whole "this is false advertising, I wanna talk to your supervisor" bit, and after waiting a long time on hold to be transfered to someone that I hoped could actually fix the problem, they just hung up on me. Not the best way to hang on to customers in my opinion. I mean, sure, it was a mistake. But with the way they handled it there would be no reason for them not to just mark everything on their site as free. What's the incentive to fix mistakes if they don't cause problems for you? (Like having to give away free laptops.)
Anyway, I tend to avoid CC now. Maybe their competition is just as bad, but until I have a problem with them, I'll continue to prefer them over CC. If you disagree with me, more power to you.

Not true. I know people under 18 who have worked at both CC and BB during the normal fiscal year (not temp. Christmas help). Circuit City used to pay well when it was commission based. I know of sales guys making six figures. Best Buy's pay has always sucked, as does CC's now that they stopped the commission sales. You pay for what you get. Half-a$$ pay equals half-a$$ labor. That's why they stand around. Ask the majority of sales associates why they stay, and they will tell you it's because of their deep discount.

Best Buy just came to my neighborhood! Things I can't get there are sold at Radio Shack. Circuit Shi++y is a last resort, for over priced items that I need right now on rare occasions.
Those mail in rebates should be outlawed. They are a waste of natural resources (trees = paper) expensive gasoline and my time...

LOL. I've had that same experience at both BB and CC. Both are bad about ignoring the customer. I was replacing around $6000 worth of stuff from a lightning strike, and the Circuit City guys could care less. Best Buy was a little friendlier, so they got more of my business.
