Hey peeps i've checked the forum and cant find any answers to my question so i hope you dont mind me asking.

My mate had a 360 core system he flashed the drive used it for a few months and now the drive isnt working properly (its not opening poroperly or playing the games orig or back up)so he has given it to me.

How do i install a new dvd drive.

depends on what kind of drive it is, but essentially you have to get the drive key from the first DVD Drive and flash it onto the new one.

Thats one of the big problems, he didnt keep a backup of the drives original settings.

without the original drive key you have a $300 DVD player

lol good thing i didnt pay for it then :-) just out of curiosity would it be possible to repair the drive it self, and why cant i find the key from the flashed data on the drive.

with advanced programming tools it may be possible to recover the orig.bin (the original firmware key) on some drives, but typically without that original you're S.O.L.

The reason you cant find it is because in simple terms it was over written. basically like renaming a file. i have not had that problem with my drive however i know some here have, give it time and they will respond with the correct methods for fixing your drive. Hopefully!

It would help a lot if he told us what type of dvd drive it is.

Apparently there is the possibility of recovering the lost orig.bin on some.

Buy a new drive off eBay. Make sure it is the same brand and version. Then just take the board out of the old drive and place it in the new one.

That's it. Now your 360 works again.
