WiiKey install worked, but then broke

I installed my WiiKey yesterday and during the install I broke the ribbon cable clip on the DVD drive. I then put the ribbon cable in and hot glued it. It worked great. Then this morning it stopped working, and i can't get it to work again. I will push the cable in the slot and hold down, it will eject and stuff but it will not read discs, tells me to eject the disc and read the users manual or something. You think its the DVD drive or the ribbon cable itself that's shot?

Can you do a continuity check on the ribbon cable to make sure its connected at both ends? Also check there isn't a short between wiring caused by the heat.
