Recently modded my Wii (PAL UK), just wanted to ask as at the time i had no idea what the technician at the shop did apart from giving me an argon chip, but later found out he gave me something like 18 wires in it, with firmware version 1.8. As the risks of not knowing what you put in your Wii can result in a brick, does anyone who also has a Wii with the same chip as me know if:
1) Super Mario Galaxy BackUp (BC) works on it?
2) SSBB BC (foreign) work on it?
3) Legend of Zelda BC works on it?
4) And generally do I have to put a freeloader disc in each time I want to play foreign games for this particular chip?
5) Any other games people find that work on it?
I could know the answers to all my questions through trial and error, but like I said I'm worried the error could be a brick.
All games work with ARGON 17 wire (which you have) when playing PAL games. Since you have a PALWii if the game disc is PAL then it will play on your PAL Wii.
Imports are different.
You do not have to use free loader since you have the 17 wire install which enables region free.
All imports are not region compatible. This is the case for all modchips and region patching programs (including free loader).
To find out what Imports work go HERE and look up the game title in the list.
There are 2 parts to the list...
NTSC-US to PAL which is for USA imports and NTSC-J to PAL which is for Japan imports. Make sure you are looking under the proper list that corresponds to the region of the game disc.
If you play imports you need to make sure you have your Wii updated to latest firmware or you risk a brick/semi-brick.
Note: For SSBB USA version you need to have the Wii set to 60Hz and will need to set a specific layer break on the dual layer disc when you burn it. To set the layer break use IMGBurn (you can get it free search for it if you don't have it). Then follow the below steps...
Select Write image to disc.
Load the source file (SSBB).
Go to tools then settings.
Go to Write tab.
Under layer break options check the "user specified" radial dial.
Say for instance i get an ISO of Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess or SSBB, before I burn it to a DVD, how will I know if this is a NTSC-US game or a PAL game? Although I don't plan to. Assuming the source of the ISO doesn't mention this.
Also, say I already have a back-up of either of those titles, like if I found them on my doorstep, before I put it in my Wii how can I determine what region it is?
Cheers, your reply made me decide I'd rather get a ripper/burner rather than rely on some unknown people and pay them money, if I was stupid enough to go along with it in the first place.
Another question lary if you know: My PalWii is less than a week old, the firmware of the Wii (not the modchip) is 3.1E. I read in one of your guides that playing imports, say for Pal Wii that doesn't have the latest firmware you can brick your Wii. But I was thinking of being cautious of updating my Wii firmware seeing as the Wii is chipped; it may sound silly but by updating the Wii firmware can the update detect you have a modchip in your Wii and hence brick it.
I hope I explained it clearly, and sorry if it's basic or if the answers on another thread.
You can find out what region a game disc is by loading it in Wii Brick Blocker (Do a search for this program) and choosing More Info. This will tell you what region the game disc originally was even if it has been region patched.
As per updating your Wii it is perfectly safe as of now to update with a Modchip in your system.
A question about ssbb, couldn't find on main thread and etc. My ssbb works but not on 60hz, when i do the method you say it asks for an update. I dont update as my Wii is a PALWii and the game is NTSC, so I then do the burn again in exactly the same way (another DVD+R dl) i use Brickblocker beforehand this time, this solves the update thing. It however only plays on 50hz and not 60hz; on 60 hz the screen goes blue after clicking on it in the Wii menu. Can i play on 60hz in any way as the 50hz is fuzzy round the edges of the screen? Is the update safe, im guessing not?
(If it helps anyone else i burnt at x16 speed (brickblocked first) but the sound was muffled amongst other things; when i burnt with x2 speed the sound was fine. Overall got it third time to where i am, 2 disks wasted)
