I'm staring at this thing like it's from another planet, completely lost...
So, I have this thing right here. To me, it's a round peg that I'm supposed to stick in a square hole. How does this thing connect to the Wii?

It doesn't go with the Wiikey. it is mislabeled. "It is a Wii SD adapter"
Here's a better description.

Thanks for that, but I still know just as little as I did before. To answer your question, I thought it was a way to make copies of my games.
It does not connect to the wii, and it doesn't connect to my computer either. How do I use it? I'm obviously missing something, can someone fill in the gaps for me?

Maybe one of the SD Gecko guys can help you out. I believe that it is used for game "dumping" from your Wii. I have the LG drives, so I am personally unfamiliar with this technique.

Honestly...
Ok, its a adapter that slots into the gamecube slot A where an SD card then slots into the top of it. The game cube ports are on the top of the Wii (assume its mounted upright)under a flip open lid.
Now, assuming the wii is modded (i am familiar with wiikey only) and you have a config disc (with DVDDump) you ought to be able to copy the game onto the SD card in segments that it can be transfered to your computer, restitched back together with HJ split.
However, I have never had DVDDump on the config disc to work. I personally use SoftDEV Backup Utility 0.1g.
It takes about 55 minutes to backup your original game in this method, and is far cheaper then the alternative rare lg drives.

So you cannot backup your Wii games with this, only gamecube?

agreed. cannot believe that someone has come across this item without knowing what it is for. I only found it by researching backup methods.
YES... its for backing up any disc in your WII. It will copy in segments. A game is 4.3 gig, the wii only recognises up to 2gb SD cards (FAT or FAT16 only) hence it will copy in 3 segments.
Using SoftDEV backup utility, it will copy until full, pause and wait for you to transfer the data to PC. Once done, insert SD card and continue. It will take 3 segments which you can join using HJ Split, creating an ISO that you burn with IMG Burn.

Nobody has answered the question:
HOW DO YOU CONNECT IT TO THE WII?
And after that, how do you connect it to the computer? IT CAME WITH NO CABLES OR INSTRUCTIONS!
This is ALL it came with. If the instructions are here, feel free to call me an idiot.

OK
There are gamecube memory card slots on top of your wii. It is a gamecube memory card with an sd card slot basically. YOu put the sd card into the rectanglish end and plug the other end into the gamecube memory card port. You have to have a wiikey and some basic knowledge at dumping games and using config disks SO RESEARCH. to connect it to your pc use the sd. Sd's connect to pc's through usb readers or laptops have sd ports built in. From what it looks like you know about the wii and the wiisd reader i'd Look up as much as you can because at the moment it sounds like you haven't even looked at a wii
Wait, Wut

Most likely, through this port here:

The big question is: How do you use it?
Is it supplementary to the internal WiiKey [saudering required] or is it a stand alone?

Wow, dead thread resurrection. As has already been said in this thread the adapter does not go with the wiikey. It is a Wii SD adapter.

Ugh! You guys are killing me. It was murder just reading through this thread. It's been spelled out so many different ways it's almost embarrassing to dumb it down any further but here it goes:
First, YES, you have to have a modchip for this to work.
1. It is a device where you plug an SD card (up to 2gb) in a slot on the top... of the device that you bought... that's gray and square... that's in a picture a few posts above... ok got it? Good, moving on.
2. You then plug that into the gamecube memory slots behind a "hidden" plastic flap on top of the wii.
3. Now you research and choose a method for backing up wii and GC games. The one recommend here is SoftDEV Backup Utility 0.1g. Google that and find out yourself how to use it.
4. In the end you take out the SD card and transfer it to your computer using a memory card reader or a mem card slot on your PC. You will then re-join all the files to create a ISO file that will be a complete backup of your original game. You can burn that later if your disc gets scratched or something but you MUST have a modchip or the backup loader channel installed with the Homebrew channel to play backups.
Oh great, now I've done it, here come all the Homebrew channel questions.

The adapter doesn't need a modchip. The DVD dumper will run without a chip if you have cIOS installed. Much of the early homebrew ran from similar adapters.
Still though, I agree 100% with your sentiment Kafluke. The questions have been answered, and if anyone wants to know about the homebrew channel theres a handy search bar they can use instead of this thread.

the wiikey config discs run in gamecube mode so they dont have support for front sd, wiimote etc. you'll have to use gc pad or reset button combo. (press reset quickly to change item, hold it down to select item
