Haven't done a lot of research on the particular burner.
Specs indicate it burns DVDR DL +/- dvds.
Any info would be appreciated.

Should work. I use a Pioneer SATA DVD burner and it works great. I don't think the brand or type (SATA or PATA) of drive matters. I think it's more about burn speed (2.4x ONLY) and the brand of media you use (Verbatims made in Singapore and NOT India). I've never used any of the India made Verbatims but I hear they're crap when it comes to burning backups.

will work as long as you set the bittype/booksetting to DVD-ROM for DVD DLs.
