Ok so I've got a MS28 drive, flashed with ixtreme 1.4. All games working fine but GTA IV has an unplayable amount of texture lag, like entire buildings not appearing till 3 seconds after I've hit them. Would changing my drive speed to 12x fix this?

I should mention that I've tried an original copy, backup on verbatim and backup on ritek disk, and there is no difference between them, so its the drive...

I have read articles and many post on forums of people stating they were having the same problem your having and their 360's weren't flashed so I don't think its the speed but if you think flashing it to 12x is one way to fix it then flash it. It wouldn't hurt anything, it might just solve your problem. Also I have read that the lag mostly affected Benq drives, which you don't have.

I don't understand why people like to flash their drives to read at slower speed. i dont' even know why C4E even came up with that, you'd think after what he did, he'd be smarter than that.

Exactly lol. All I can think is that my problem is to do with the drive speed, I've tried all other suggestions such as clearing the cache, playing for a while etc... and its still laggy

I used Xbox Backup Creator to read the disk (read at 2x) and ImgBurn to burn the disk (write speed 2.4x). Altho it can't really be a problem with my burning as its happening with my retail copy of the game.

I agree burning, i don't understand why a person would want to lower their drive speed other than noise, but you're setting yourself up for slow load times and texture lag.

Thanks for the help all, just to clarify, I didn't personally lower my drive speed, the guy that flashed it says he can't remember whether it was 8x or 12x he flashed it to, so I'm assuming with the texture lag it was 8x.

On another note, I'm going to buy a whole new ms28 drive, and am looking for someone in the UK who would be willing to flash it with my key, put ixtreme 1.4 on it and raise the drive speed to 12x. If anyone could do this please let me know prices etc...

Also as a general question to all, do you think its a good idea to raise the drive speed on a brand new drive...would it do any harm?

Once again thanks for all the help

I would never set my drive speed below defaul to save on a little noise, but thats just me.

as far as finding modders in the UK check out the Buy/Sell/Trade or Modder Store sections on forums.xbox-scene.com.

There's tons of people there from the UK

Cheers for the lightning quick reply, that links gonna be really really useful. To clarify, should I raise the drive speed regardless of performance, like if my drives working fine, is it worth increasing the drive speed anyways?

In my opinion it is. I've never used below 12x and i don't really see the point in doing so.

some people use 8x and say they have no issues, so i think its more of a personal preference thing

on that note it is up to you man. diff people use diff methods, like i said i am running at 8x and i dont even notice a load time difference and all of my games run smoothly. it truly is personal preferance. only reason i see to change it would be if you were having trouble reading media. other than that just pick a number :)
