Sorry if this is in the wrong section...

I bought an xbox elite, paid somebody to put in a chip, but now I realize I don't even know what I bought! For some reason I want to say it was a v72? Anyways, if someone could tell me a way to determine my chip (and what kind of drive I have) without opening it up, that would be great.

did he say he was spcefically going to chip it or mod it? modding it also meanings flashing the FW.

I didn't think the usual mod chips were compatable with the 79?

If you got an Elite and it's been chipped, the odds are 99% that you have a Hitachi 79 drive. The "chip" would be the Passkey (most popular) or the Infectus.

Either of those chips are solely for getting the drive in to mode b, which then enables the drive to be flashed with modified firmware.

I think the chip is called NME 2.0...its a chip that works for all xbox 360 drives and lets you play backups with out flashing.Its at www.team-underdog.com....Either this or the modder installed a Passkey (Maximus v79 or Infectus Keychip)for flashing the v79 drive which is probably what you have.Unless you bought ur 360 during first 2 months the elites were launched.Why dont you go ahead and ask the modder if he used any of these.And I think you meant a v79 not v72.
