The PS3 is no more hazardous than the products,appliances and gadgets already existing in your home.
It's not just the PS3, all latest game consoles have nasty chemicals in there. Phthalates chemicals are used in many many household and car appliances, to soften plastics. But worse is that PS3 and Xbox360 contains Beryllium, which has been linked to lung cancer...
However, the article from the BBC (see below) says NintendoWii is the worst offender. On top of having no green policies, I should think the Wii is bad for the very fact that so many batteries are required to make full use of it. And most people, who do not care about the environment they pass on to future generations, will simply be buying the cheapest batteries and throwing them in the bin when they're out of use. Meaning tons of Nickel, Lead or even Mercury ending up in rivers and lakes, and oceans...
