OK I have a few full movies on my laptop and I'm looking to burn them on a DVD disc. Is this the proper guide that I should use: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/convert_avi_to_dvd.cfm The files are in avi format. If this is the proper guide, what type of blank discs should I buy??? Once I have burned the movie, will it be able to play on regular DVD players??? Thanks.
if the files you have are the same type as in the guide, then that guide will work for you.
AVI is what is called a "container" format, it is not a specific format, unlike MPEG, VOB etc.
As it says in the guide, you need to find out (using the utilities mentioned in the guide) if you have the correct codecs.
What Burner do you have?
In general, -R disks TEND to be compatable with more standalone players.
In general, cheap media TEND to have problems with quality (especially in standalone players).
The burning method and choice of program for burning with can also have an effect of compatability with standalones.
So, you see, your question is considerably more involved than it seems at first....
Those questions that are clearly thought out, with relevant info enclosed (burner, operating system, programs used, files to be used etc. etc.) tend to be answered quicker.
