Just need to make sure I will have everything to mod my wii.
I've decided to get the wiikey and already have a soldering iron, solder etc to fit the chip.
I've got some verbatim dvd-r disks already aswell.
Is there anything else I'm missing? If not I'll be buying today :)

wiikey won't work on a brand new wii. you'll need a new chip; argon is recommended.
there is the chance that you may get the unmoddable D2C v2 board.
ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure
got a whole lot more to list . . .

You could also go with the D2PRO9, seems to be allot of support with this chip, its now dvd-upgradeable and works with all wii-models think it works with the new d2c2 chips and if not it's going to work very soon with it, you might want to look c if your pins on your D2B chip set have been cut, if they have id suggest the D2PRO9 or WASABI if you don't fancy dremeling the legs of the IC chips;)
Suggestion as a new modder myself would be to get a good magnifier a 15w soldering iron with the finest point you can get some 33swg/30 awg cable or can go thicker as its the wii-key and simply to install,
Take your time and don't rush:D

Thanks, I don't think the pins in my wii have been cut which is good news. I've done quite a lot of reseach and found the wiikey to be the most popular mod chip. Do you think the D2pro9 will be better? Also isn't the wiikey easier to install? I think the wiikeys cheaper aswell.

For old Wii's I still like Wiikey. There are cheap, pretty easy to installs and someone would probably come up with a disc update if it ever needed another one since you can update it via disc.

Thanks for all the help. I've decided to go for the wiikey and the wii clip v3. When I solder the wiikey to the wii-clip do I have to solder it directly or can I use short wires instead?
One last thing, I remember reading somewhere that I may need to buy a gamecube controller to be able to update the wii key firmware. Is this true?

I've just bought the wii key and the wii clip for £25 which quite good.
Can anyone answer my question on whether I need to buy a gamecube controller aswell to update the wii key firmware?
Thanks

You can use the reset button to navigate through the Wiikey setup/update disc. You do not need a Game Cube controller.

pal game + pal wii = no brick
ntsc-j game + ntsc-j wii= no brick
ntsc-u game + pal wii = possible brick
pal game + ntsc-u wii= possible brick
ntsc-j game + pal wii = possible brick
Just use ur head and ask your self what could possibly be the results of using out of region game and USE WII BRICK BLOCKER ON ALL PAL GAMES

Ye personally if it was my own Wii id go for the D2PRO9 seems the wii-key updates and support "may" be discontinued due to this new arrival of chip, the wii-key isnt that much easyier to install http://www.d2pro.com/downloads/installD2pro5-9V1.4.pdf just have to connect the 3 green ones and GND and positive, 5 wires + none to IC tracks for your chipset, but your right at the moment similar functions and the wii-key is alot cheaper:D either way you got a good chip.
Best of look.

The ARGON is not DMS/D2A/D2B compatible at this time. Kind of bad to give a recomendation on a Modchip that does not support the drive they have.

You can usually get a tri-wing by ordering it where ever you order the modchip.
