tried to make XBMC my default dashboard except something went horribly wrong. When i FTP'd the XBMC default.xbe into the xbox C drive after following the correct process ( youtube video of process)including using the XBE shortcutmaker to rename it evoxdefault.xbe and renaming the original evox dash as the backup xbe. I did notice when i FTPd the new one into the C drive it was showing as a word file??!! but i went ahead thinking nothing of it. Rebooted and expected to see XBMC dash pop up only to see the original microsft xbox dash appear. Figured it wasnt a prob so i attempted to FTP back into the xbox HD to fix but it wont connect up. Plese help, ive searched forums for days and cant find a solution.

I think XBMC should have gone into your /E/Apps drive.
Nothing should go into C. Anyway, if your Xbox still boots up but can not connect to FTP, try removing the Xbox from your FTP program, re-start your computer, and re-do the FTP path in your program. Then if you can connect Delete XBMC from the C drive also clear the cache from the E drive and put XBMC in the /E/App/ location
You can also try this path ftp://xbox:***@192.168.02 (don't why, but this seems to work when I have trouble with FTP)
BTW, is the xbox chipped or a Softmod? If it's a softmod, reinstalling the softmod may be all you need to do

Then use a proper installer disk. Lots of versions of xbmc are pretty broken. (as you can see from the hundreds of threads about faults with it) You can change your dash to just about any application by editing the evox.ini file.

OK... heres how you do it.. but seriously I wouldn't trust xbmc on a box with a broken dvd drive.

FTP any dash folders complete you want into E:/somewhere, then have a quick look in them and see where/what the default.xbe file that loads them is called.. and it's direct path.

Then edit C:\evoxdash (evox) .ini to point directly at it.

Most .ini files on the box are straight xml files, so you can edit them with a plain text editor like notepad... DO NOT use word.

What's up with your dvd drive? It can sometimes be real simple to get them reading again.

hey thanks for the quick replys. When i turn on the xbox i get the original MS xbox dash nothing more & i have re-entered all the network settings on my laptop, xbox * FTP program to allow FTPing but it does not connect to the xbox. Its like the HDD is locked up and doesnt recognise that its a chipped xbox with other dashboard alternatives. Would this be because the evox.xbe had a word file format icon when i FTPd it onto the xbox? I hope i have been descriptive enough to help you understand the challenge i have to get this box back to its former glory

As for the DVD drive,i bought this box off a friend & i dont really know whats up with it, it just doesnt read discs. But since you've mentioned it may be a quick fix i will search the forums for a solution.
