I've been reading up on -R and +R, it seems that +R is a better disc, but has a lower compatibility with standalone DVD players and they are a bit more expensive. So do most of you use -R or +R?

I use Packard bell +R & -R media. Reason I change is I use the whichever is cheaper of the two at the time of purchase. I have not had any problems with either, both produce excellent results. Beware though if you buy cheap media don't expect good results! You have to find which media suits your system & requirements. Experimentation is the key!

Its not a matter of one being better than the other. Like Pulsar said it depends on your way of using them and the equipment involved. You are about 80% safe with -R working with most older players. Newer ones usually will play both. Check compatibility before burning to help prevent problems.

generally it is recognised that the +R format is slightly more advanced than the -R format, but as mentioned it really comes down to the compatibility of the player you intend using it on. Check out compatibilities at www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers.php

I dont like it much myself, but to be honest, both will work for more. Now that ill have the new DVR107 8x writer that does both, ill just have to find the right variation on the Ritek disc, ie: Arita, RiDATA or Traxdata, that best suits my 8x needs.
