There is no disc required for putting games onto the HD. It is the loading of the games that requires a disc (HD Loader disc). If your system is modded is some way though, you would not need the HD Loader disc either.

Ok first its better to copy games to the PS2 hdd with your PC using WinHiip
http://www.console-exploits.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9236

Then to be able to play them you need to exploit your PS2 so you can run hddloader.elf to be able to play the games on your hdd.

http://www.console-exploits.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7872

Do you have a gameshark, codebreaker or some type of cheat disk, as its really easy then to transfer the exploit.
http://www.console-exploits.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12497

Otherwise you need an original PS1 disk.

+1

Your going to need more tools man. Exploit is going to be your best bet right now. So as smokyrain says, your going to need a cheat disc or a ps1 disc. Another option would be to order Swapmagic, that will take down many barriers.

the hdd is not suppose to show up in the ps2 browser if you use winhiip to format. only the official 40gig formatted with the hdd utility disc will show up in the browser.

to get third party hdd's to show up in the browser, you'll need the dms4 modchip; it's the only modchip that makes all hdd's appear in the browser.

Here is a thread that talks about the utility disc. Link seems to have the files missing though...

Your other option would have to be to get it online (ex. Ebay) or through P2P.

Easiest option for you would be to install and load games using HDLoader, it has a brilliant user interface too. To find out if your ps2 is modded, does it play backups?, if yes then your ps2 is modded, if no, youl need an original, "pressed hdloader disc", just the disc itself costs about £30 minimum

F4HAD - you need to read the whole thread before you go posting advice.

The best way too transfer games to hdd is using WinHiip

Maybe not the easiest, but not hard and it is way faster and more reliable in my opinion.

yes, winhiip and imgburn is way better than hdloader.

rip all games with imgburn, and load all with winhiip. you can probably get at least five games ripped and loaded onto the hdd before hdloader is done loading one.

With all due respect, of course I read the whole thread before posting, which is what I always do. I was trying to suggest that anyone who does not have a lot of experience with PS2's running Hard Drives with games on it, should not jump to the "big fish", as it were. For this user, the easiest method would be to use HDLoader.
It is simply impractical to unplug the harddrive from the PS2, and open the casing of your PC to install games to the hard drive, it is a lot easier to just leave your harddrive permanenetly in your ps2, and just using hdloader, but if your experienced, of course, other methods could be used too

you do know hdloader/hdadvanced doesn't load all games, right? it'll either fail to load, or just freeze during installation. ripping with imgburn and loading with winhiip bypasses that, and they still run perfectly on hdloader/hdadvanced. so why wait and see if the game does load, if there's already a better and faster way?
