Ok so I want to mod my xbox 360 dvd drive's firmware. I was looking at a guide and I am pretty sure but not possitive that my xbox would have the 0079 version of the hitatchi drive. I have a arcade console that i bought back in january, it has the hdmi ports. I have read that if you want to mod this firmware it requires a passkey. Ive solder a modchip into my wii and ps2 so thats no problem, I just do not want to do it for the 360. I know my drive is a hitachi drive because ive looked at the pictures. But i dont want to open my xbox and find it is the 0079 and break the warrenty for something that I will never do anything with. Another question is that my computer has 4 sata ports on the motherboard but I do not see a power lead connection anywhere. Do i just use the xbox for the power source. All i see on the mother board is 4 data points with the "L" shaped plugs. I can post pictures if someone does not know what Im talking about. Just want to know where to get started. Any help would be good.

hi this may not be of much use to you but the mother board stat ports most likly wont work, the 360 drive will only be regognised buy the VIA VT6421A chipset, you can pick them up cheeply off ebay. i havent had any experiance with the arcade console but ive personaly never heard anything about the drive requireing a pass code however when you do a firmware dump you get the drive key which i might add is unique to evry console and is stored in the cpu aswell as the dvd firmware.

you must keep the dvd key safe because if you botch the flash you will need to re-flash the drive.

ther are many tutorials on this site that can help you i havent read this tut yet but it seems that alot of people have had sucsess using it http://www.360mods.net/Downloads/get=61.html

That has plenty of information, and includes flashing both the 0078 and 0079 drives.
