Can I send my modded Xbox 360 to Microsoft?

So I got the RROD a couple days ago and I'm wondering if I can send my system (which has been modded for over a year) to Microsoft. Would they be able to tell if it's modded or not?

Theoretically, they will send it back unfixed. In actuality, they should fix it. Had like 3 modded, obviously opened RROD 360s and they fixed them all.

... yes, MS can tell if it's modded.
In the past, many had good luck sending in tampered consoles. But that's not the case anymore. MS has been cracking down. There have been more reports of people getting rejected than people who get them fixed. A few may still slip through the crack.
If it gets rejected, then naturally MS will flag it and you can never get it repaired in the future, either. It'd make more sence to just flash back to the original and reapply a warranty sticker.

where do you find replacement warranty stickers? You do realize that Microsoft has the stupid box warranty sticker that if you take it off part of the sticker stays on and makes a checker pattern. If you know where to get a sticker to make this appear as though it did not happen then tell me. I had 2 RROD xboxs that are in need of service. Bad heat sinks in both of them, I just dont have the time to work on them.

They sell them for around $20 on ebay. Now, even if you flash original FW back, can MS still tell the FW was tampered with?

You should realize that there are ways to remove the sticker without damage to it.
If you ruined your sticker, you might have luck finding some on eBay.
I'd imagine that if the repair center could determine if the firmware had been altered then restored, we'd see a lot more posts where people received their 360 back unrepaired.
I honestly doubt they can determine if it's been altered and restored, but that's my opinion.

sorry to bump an older topic but im pretty sure if they wanted to check for it they very easily could do so but as a image move to make them look better they choose to fix them.also i would send it in:)

I'm sure they can, but I think when they are doing the RROD repairs they don't check that because they are getting so many.
But i'm confident if they did run some kind of test to see if the drive was hacked they'd reject it

Id recommend in increasing your risks of getting accepted by
-removing all the modding hardware out and installing back the stock parts
-make sure to put the warranty sticker back on and aligning it to the left over residue if some
-If you have spray painted it,you have no chance at all so forget it.
-if you have flashed the firmware then restore it
These are my tips. AND if you have spray painted it or something,just to the X-Clamp fix on it and itll stop having the red lights.Its a popular method used to stop the red lights.Go look for it on youtube.
I think I left somethings out.OR if you dont want to do the X-clamp fix,go buy the stock casing off ebay.Alot of people sell their case and stuff.Good Luck

I've got the same probleme, but if I send it to microsoft, i cant get a fine or something? so i just can send and hope for the best?

LOL too funny, Bhetrick, thanks man. I stand by my statement, know like 6 different people who have sent in modded consoles (like 10 total), and they all got fixed. lol, not talking about you Bhetrick, but I think a lot of the people who say MS won't fix modded RROD are people who want to buy them from the person real cheap and turn around and sell it for a lot more :)

Ahh no... don't take me the wrong way. I know pleanty of people got their consoles repaired without warranty stickers. And more power to them.
There's no excuse for these consoles to have suffered from overheating for too long. MS got away with profiting from defective systems. Now I hope they have to repair every single one. Know what I mean?
I was just letting vdawg5 know that there is still a good chance, now more than ever, that MS is checking consoles. It'd be better to just spend 10 minutes flashing back before sending it in.

Even if they fix it and don't know wether if firmware is tampered with. I'm sure they could just put a backed up game in it after it's repaired to see if it plays. If it does, whola .. modded. It's a no brainer by now. Fix the dame xbox your self, of have somebody who knows what they are doing , fix it. You save a fortune on not buying any games by playing on your modded xbox. I mean how low or cheap are you going to go. Wait, let me( for say) rob a store and then go back the same store the next day. LOL.

You guys are funny, looking for $M stickers online for $20. It cost you less than $20 to fix it yourself. Go to a fle market and buy a damage xbox for $10 and use it for spar parts. Hell, you could even use it's serial to get yourself unbanned. Jesus christ, do I got to school you kids on everthing.

Ok one more time, for free advise, after this it's going to cost ya. Buy the xbox at costco new then replace it with the old one and return it for your money back, no questions ask. no, they will not check the serial. Its costco which has teeni boopers woring for them. I'm am buying my next video game systm from them so when, not if it breaks I will be able to return it. Gamestop sucks, Bestbuy sucks, Circuit City, target, sears, kamart mom and pops place( did I leave any out, oh yea,Walmart) they all SUCK! My brother in law sent a vacume cleaner which was delapitated, dripping with scum goo all over it back( ready for this) THREE YEARS LATER. Do you get now? Free returns for the rest of your living life! Thats right, thank you smoobies for enlighting me.

Ya, why don't you school us on how you'll use a busted 360 to get unbanned and where to find these "$10 consoles".
To start with, a banned 360 shouldn't even be grouped in with rrods in regards to repairs. Those require totally different procedures to get them working.
As for a $20 sticker, well you'll spend half of that buying bolts/washers if you want to try and fix the problem yourself. So for the extra $10, I rather have the manufacturer repair it and warranty it.

I am just addind humor into my advise. Please do'nt take offense. But you can do all of the previous things I mentioned. I do not have the time to go ito it right not, but changin a serial is done somewhat like old xbox and yes at a fle market in Englishtown N.J. you could get a broken xbox 360 for $10.( not banned). Costco does return everything any time without ques.

and then when take the 360 you bought for 10 bucks and try to send it to microsoft and they say "and what is your name sir?" and you go "john doe" that is when they laugh at you. this isn't our first rodeo cowboy, dont make it sound like we dont know wtf we are talking about. as for returning things to store that you broke, sure do it once and its cool to get something new that works espically in the 360's case when it isn't the consumer's fault the majority of the time, but returning everything is stealing, and not only that it hurts our already declining economy. this site isn't about stealing, so please keep the welfare tatics to yourself and the low-income housing units.

It's quite more involved than the old Xbox. You're not changing the serial number, you're changing the key (fine if you meant the same thing). You need a working 360 to get the unbanned key from. The only way to get the key is by downgrading the kernel. And to do that you need to install the Infectus and run a modified King Kong.
