flashing replacement hitachi drive

sorry for any stupids questions im new to this

i recently bought an hitachi 47 drive for my 360 to flash the previous drive was a 79F and needed soldering in order to flash it so i thought if i bought an older version i wud be able to avoid this problem. When i got my 47 drive i simple replaced the 79 drive with this one. I then flashed the 47 drive using the iXtreme1.4_Hitachi_C4EVA_rev1 firmware. It finished and said the drive had been flashed 100%. But when i tried both an original game and a backup both would not and i got the error message saying please insert this into a 360 console. It plays everything else fine just not games. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated

i also heard something about a drive key im not sure about this and whether or not it has something to do with the problem

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but...


Not having the drive key from the 79 is your problem. Basically, you just wasted money buying that 47. Because in order to get the key from the 79, you have to purchase a mod chip, which does need soldering.

And if you go through the trouble of getting the chip and soldering, then you might as well finish by flashing the 79.

thnx for replying is there any other way to get past that e.g. getting a different make drive altogether

becasue i dont no anywhere where i could get the mod chip soldered on

The only way to get past it would be to get a different 360.

Right now, there is absolutely no way to swap out that 79 drive without getting the drive key.

The ONLY way to get that key is to
- solder on the mod chip
- remove the tsop and extract the firmware with an external programmer.

so basically i would have to get a mod chip soldered on then once that has been done would i be able to use a programme like xbins to do the rest as it were any other drive

That's it... except you get programs/firmware from Xbins.

ahh ok thanks alot thats helped me out alot but as far as getting the drive into modeb would i still be able to use the slax cd like the other hitachi drives

really appreciate the help

For the 79? The mod chip enables modeb, so you wouldn't need the Slax with the 79.
