Question about my burner and hitachy drive.

Anyway, I just got my 360 modded.
Drive name is Hitachi 47 and the person who modded it, told me that this is a very problematic drive and only discs burned with Pioneer writer will work on it.
It didn't read his discs burned with Samsung writer.
So, I have a question, will it read discs burned with my LG 4163B writer or I have to buy Pioneer 111D?

your burner should work fine, just make sure you are using verb media as usually that is the source of the problem.

Well he told me that my xbox 360 didn't read very well his verbatim disc, that was burned with his Samsung writer.
He told me that my Xbox 360 seemed to recognose the disc, the game seemed to start up and then go back to dashboard, because it couldn't read the disc.
I believe that worked fine on his own system.
And 1 more thing: He reported that he had trouble flashing my drive and some blue screen popped up, but told me that all went fine in the end and that Hitachi 47 drives are very crappy.

well my friend what he told you was not true. sounds like to me he screwed up when he flashed your drive. the only thing i can tell you is to go buy some verbs and burn a game urself. it could be media, burn speed, bad fw, you name it. until we know what we are working with there is alot that could be wrong. my guess is that he messed up the fw, sounds like he is unsure of what he is doing. let us know what happens, if you have to you can flash the drive yourself its not that hard.

Well, he's sending it back to me and I'm going to receive my xbox tomorrow.
I'll see then.
But that guy has modded loads of xboxes and I don't think that he can simply randomly screw up.
I'll see tomorrow, when I receive it.
And I just asked about the blue screen thing and he told me that blue screen popped up on his windows, then he tried again on a different computer and everything went 100% fine.

Ok I received my xbox. I don't have any backups or DL DVD's at hand right now, but it reads my originals just fine, so FW can't be faulty.
I just guess I have to burn some games on my own and then try.

the hitachi drives are problematic and very picky about media.
This burner thing is relevant, your burner needs to be tip top, which is why people are saying use the pioneers (dirt cheap anyway.. same price as 25 verbs) My nec 3550 manages, but it's a superb burner. A new samsung 18x is a fail every time.. In my experience only 2 kinds of disks work reliably.. verbs and traxdata purple. Even ty's will fail. If using verbs and a 112d you get lots of fails it's likely to be your 360 laser.. they seem to last 12-18 months regardless of maker.
People can spout lots of BS about disks and burners, but in this case save yourself lots of time and money and buy a pioneer 112d and a stack of verbs. You won't regret it.

Ok, so you're saying that my LG GSA-4163B won't do the job?
And what is the difference between pioneer 111D and 112D?

Try it and see.. I have no experience of LG drives other than replacing them because of poor performance. LG/hitachi/toshiba/liteon.. OEM rebranded turn up as those horrid HT-ST-HL drives (drives?? more like a blanking plate with a cup holder enable button!!) that are total rubbish.
I don't know the difference between the 111 and 112, probably no more than firmware knowing pioneer from the past, but people say to use the 112, and they are the same price so why risk it??
I know for a fact that the 109 will not burn a working 360 disk

Well it takes some time for my first backup to arrive.
Then I'll buy some Verbatim DVD+R DL discs and try.

How do I do that?
1 more thing: When I insert mu Verbatim DL DVD into my DVD Drive, I can hear no spinning noise as if my drive doesn't recognise it...
