Are you on wireless? For HD files you need a powerful router sometimes for the films to play properly.

Not likely the router, most likely TVersity is transcoding the mpeg file. Make sure transoding is off. Any lag would be caused by a slow PC or a bad wireless connection.

hey guys thanx for your replies but im curious to why i dont get lagging with the other movies i got such as avi and divx format.. why do i get lagging with the converted mkv files ? i even converted the mkv to vob but still same problem.. i even tried it with transcoding off... i would of thought if i had a slow laptop or a problem with my wireless then i would experience that problem with my other media also.. everything else plays perfect.. plz help guys becoz i cant wait to watch my first blu ray film :)

Were your other avi's and divx'x HD like your Blu-Ray rip? If not that would be your issue.

from what I can gather the higher the resolution of the video the more processing power needed to make it run smoothly. The wireless connection would also come into play becauase it can only send and recieve a certain amount of data at limited speeds. So the more data (higher resolution) the more strain on the processor and router.

hi thanx for your reply. so what your saying is that if i reduced the resolution through tversity that should fix it?ill post my router and laptop spec later and see if you can identify if they are the problem..

Kammyy,

What you are attempting to do is actally the reason I purchased my PS3. Here's what I did :

Converted the mkv to an mpg using MKV2VOB and left transcoding off.
Took 10 minutes to convert a 5 gig file.
I experimented with Tversity and MediaPlayer11. I opted for MP11.

720p files streamed PERFECT over my wireless G network. When I converted a 1080p using the same process, it would stream, but was very jerky. I ran a Cat5 cable from my router to the PS3 and all issues were solved. I can now stream up to 1080p SMOOTH.

In addition, I noticed that fast forwarding is also smoother than doing it wirelessly. I had issues going ahead at 10x...now, no issues.

It's most likely your laptop's processing power combined with a less than standard wireless connection.

Hope this helps.
