one thing i wanted to know my friend knows how to flash the system but he told me i needed a certain model number so i've been looking everywhere for this answer what type of model number does it have to be because he tried doing on his friends elite and it didn't work and he gave me the guide on to flash it. but it doesn't say what model number. see the thing i haven't bought the 360 i'm planning on buying next week for i can flash it. but he also was telling me that microsoft have been sending new systems that can't be fleshed nor modded so i'm worried that i get one of those instead also since i don't the what model numbers to look for in order to buy it.

heres the thing, elite's are very hard, your friend dosnt sound very smart, and the "model number" you are refering to is probablly the serial number, which is located on the xbox under the faceplate i belive, if not its on the back.

i guess my question really is does the serial number matters in order to flash the system since he was teling me that i might need a specfic one? or can i buy any 360 to do it? or do i have to search for a used one?

i do not believe the serial number matters, you type in the serial number on the xbox during the flashing process thats all. it has nothing to do with buying one. so you have nothing to worry about as far as that aspect goes. you should read one of the many tutorials out there on the flashing process before going any further.

well he gave my the 360mods.net tutoral but i saw it depends on the drives you get. but when he told me about model numbers i'm figuring it might be because the new shipment thats out now might not be with these drives anymore and mightnot be flashble so thats what is kinda worrying me. no i go out there and buy myself any 360 and it works i'm good i'm just worried if what he said is might be true that i look for a cretain model that might bring any of the drives. ib the tutoral it talks about Hitachi-LG GDR3120L, Philips/BenQ/LiteOn VAD6038, Toshiba-Samsung TS-H943A how to flash these so how would i know if i didn't get any of these or i do but it's a different models would i still be able to flash the drives using the same mathod for those drives? and if not is there a upgrade tutoral for these drives?

lol alright thanks just want to make sure because is 345 bucks down the drain if i can't and also he's really the one flashing it for me. and he tried to do it on one of his other friends xbox and he couldn't do it but that guy took it to someone else and all he did was boost up the lens and boom it worked.

lol what? boost up the lens? ok before you go any further read the tutorial and come back and talk to me. also read some of the tings that have been posted here, because it is hard to understand what someone is talking about when they dont know what they are talking about.. you know what i mean? (No Offense) So anyway go do some reading and get back to us with any questions you may have. and btw, Happy Modding!

The model/serial don't matter. You want a specific drive, then check the mfr.date, lot #, and team #. You don't want a 360 which has the Hitachi 79.

Check the link in my sig.

after reading through this (and again, no offense) neither of you (you or your friend) sound like you should be trying to flash drives. Because someone who knew what they were doing would not have had problems flashing an elite or the other one he had to take to someone else. They do have some newer consoles with a new DVD drive in them which i am not sure anyone has figured out how to flash yet. And as abouve you surely do not want the 0079 drive either.

So make sure you do some good research before you run out and buy one. There is a tab on the box and under it is a lot of information that will help you in getting the right console for easy flashing. As stated above read the links in his sig before you go doing anything.

And if the store you go to gives you any lip about wanting to look under the tab, tell them you are looking for a specific team build. If they still give you problems just tell them, fine that you will just go buy it at another store. If that gets no response then buy it at another store.

you need to read the links. The Team FDOU is not the main factor, they make a lont of them including the ever so popular system that had the new Falcon motherboard in it that ran cooler then previous models. I wouold say anything made in 2007 and you SHOULD be fine.

for example, this is how people said you could find a falcon motherboard
Team FDOU
Manufactured on or after 8/24/07
Lot number 0734 (on the Halo 3 SKU) or higher (on any SKU)

that is the kind of info you need to get.

well i was looking for the manufactured date but it didn't show on the barcode sticker on but it did show lots numbers part and the team fdou. ok so i look for a team if the is fdou or any other aslong its dated anywhere in 07 i should be fine? and i'm not worried about how to flashing it. i'm concerned how to find one that's able to be fleshed thats once i find one i don't care i know how do it i just need to know what to look for finding the right drives since you told me anything in made in 2007 i should be fine so i just what to make sure before i go out there looking everwher for a 2007 when i might need more info and if i don't then i thx you for the all the info thx for the advice.

also if you mean these links i've look through them but none answer the main question on how to figure out how to find the drive you need when buying a xbox360 now so thats why i'm asking so many questios because i want to make sure before i buy one thats not able to because of the new drives not being flashed yet.

this link that is in bhetrick's sig is probably the best thing to look at. It tells you what drive is in the system, and the team, and the MFG date and then some.
http://www.360drives.com/list

I know you can not exactly take that to the store with you but it is your best resource for knowing which drive you have. And it was the Lite-On drive that was the newest. But unfortunately the list only has 3 of them and they are all PAL and in France, no telling what they are anywhere else since no one has reported them. Although all of those were made in 2008,

i see well i'm in ny so idk if the lite is out here but the mf number wasn't on the barcode sticker. so thats why i'm trying to figure this out but thx for the link this was helpful in terms of what to look for for what i see most of the fdou team made benq and since i'm in US it mostly likely to be ntsc and the one i'm getting is a pro so far i'm 87% sure that i can flesh it with the one by the store i'm just to going to write down the dates on my cell and go back and check again

There's a small flap you can open on the box to see the 360 inside. It's the flap the cashier opens to scan the barcode. Open that flap and you'll see it. And the mfr. is below the barcode.

The Benq, Samsung, and Hitachi can be flashed. Except the Hitachi 79.

So you want to avoid the Hitachi 79 and the Lite On.

Oh-oh, I just had a console replaced by Nyko and I got lot 0818, team FDOU, that link says its a LiteOn, does this mean it cannot be flashed? It says "Go Pro" on the box, and has HDMI slot, am I screwed?

Oh wait, I think I scored; the Ben-Q drive is pretty dissimilar to the LiteOn, I presume, just looking at the tray? The one I have looks exactly like the Ben-Q on that website.

The Benq and Lite On tray look exactly the same. The only way to tell the difference is to look at the label on top of the dvd drive.
