Okay, I have followed the guide: How to play MKV content on Xbox 360 several times with multiple MKV files with no luck. I started to try to do so with Windows XP 64, which I couldn't get to work. So, I am now using XP 32 and I am still having major issues. I am trying to stream them via CAT6 cable from my PC to my 360. I don't know where to start, so here we go.
All the MKV files I have after I Demux them they are h264 & DTS 5.1 files. I have discovered that MeGUI doesn't work with DTS converting, so through another forum I discovered the use of BeHappy. So, I convert them to WAV then use MeGUI w/NERO AAC to convert WAV to MP4 (LC-AAC) as per the guide & yes I downmix to 2 channel stereo.
Then, I mux as per the guide using Yamb (w/MP4Box). The end result is a MP4 file container that Windows Media Player 11 recognizes as a video file that is 0:00 in length. It will play it, but I can't fast forward/rewind or use the slider. The Audio is horribly out of sync with a delay of about 1-2 seconds after the video.
The XBOX 360 doesn't even see the file, just the folder. When I open the folder I get a message that there isn't any playable content in it etc. After all my failed attempts I used the program: h264 info as per the guide, to make sure the h264 file is switched from Level 5.1 to 4.1. I go through that with each or the orginal h264 files, but am still at square one when all is done. I also tried both foobar2000 & DAudioK for the audio conversions all with the same issues. I tried with normal startup programs running in background as well as terminating all other unnecessary programs before starting the entire process.
I saw a guide for TVeristy, and tried that. It works when it isn't buffering or freezing. I toyed around with the amount of "Temporary disk space used" from default through 500mb increases all the way up to 4000mb without much improvement. I could decrease the quality dramatically to improve use, but then what's the point of HiDef.
I have been working on this for about 2-3 weeks now and I am at a loss. If anyone has encountered this and has a work around, a fix, or anything please let me know. Thanks for all the help in advance, because after all I am still just a n00b
I have been here before, the only way I got out of it was a VGA cable to the back of my TV; link that with laptop and bam, HD mkvs without the conversion and all the mess.
It's very complicated, but one thing for sure is, after all conversions the video quality will be at a big loss. Anytime you can converting to a lossy format, then to another lossy format is not good idea.
Just get VGA cable and save the massive headache.
From what i have been through I'm in process of building a Media Center to house all mkvs and media, also acts as centre server. With a case that looks great of course.
Yes, I could hookup cables from my PC to my TV. I could do component, VGA, or even HDMI, but in all my efforts I am seriosly trying to avoid it. The reason being is that my home office is on the 2nd level & about a 75 ft. run of Ethernet cable away from the Home Theater Plasma on the main level. My computer tower is a powerhouse & isn't very mobile, the laptop on the other hand is mobile. Unfortunately, it is lacking in so many departments... speed, video, & storage just to name a few. It gets me by & it was free so I can't complain too much.
I appreciate the replies & ideas thus far. It's good & bad to hear others have experienced the encoding nightmares of files from a MKVcontainer to files in a MP4 container. I welcome anymore ideas or thoughts. Thanks again so far.
