when you put the motherboard in the oven at 415 degrees do you take off the coolers or keep them on to keep the preasure on the chips to resolder them in the right place..
one of my 360s is rrod after removed the xclamps and replacede them with bolts through the coolers.
my other 360 has the no video problem but no rrod how can i make it fall over to rrod to get it replaced on the 3yr warrenty, as the state its in at the moment ms want £53 for the repairs
any help cheers

For those of you reading this: This is half-ass way of doing the real x-clamp mod. The real X-clamp mod that permanently fixes your RROD requires $5 worth of screws to replace the x-clamp. Do that and get it right the first time.

if you got the RROD why not just call M$, thats what i did and my x box was over 3 years old, they sent me a box to send my 360 to them and sent me back one that was manufactored september 14 2007

The Xbox 360 was launched in November 2005. So I'm finding it a little hard to believe yours was over 3 years old.

Hey this Half-Ass Job of mine worked for me I was in a rush to get an xbox up and running and couldn't be arsed buying an x-clamp like I said it was a freebie, I am not telling people to do it my way, just letting know how I did it! so what if it sounds like a bodge job, I'm using all original parts and it's still running, played on it every day, what everyone seems to think is that it will fail because of the solder under gpu, well if it fails again I shall try the oven method,, oh and this 360 had been opened to play backups by the owner so that's why I didn't send off to m$, think they might have got in touch with me about something :-)

It's good that you got your 360 running, but pushing the eject and sync buttons has nothing to do with "resetting" your 360. Those 2 buttons are used for showing the error code.

i did the xclamp mod 6 months ago got all the parts from b n q as the mod site stated and yes it did work for over 3 months , then one day my lad was playing burnout takedown and it siezed up and when he restarted it the 360 went rrod, i replaced the thermal compound with arctic silver again reclamped it with the screws and it worked to the boot screen then locked up again and rrod ive even tried the remove washer and shim ideas but still to no avail, i cant return the 360 to microsoft as i cut the cooler fins to add the bolts and they wont work on anything thats had 3rd party work on.
so do i leave the coolers on when i pop it in the oven???

Inthe real X-clamp mod you want to REMOVE the x-clamps that are ALREADY there. You don't need to buy x-clamps. X-clamps are the source of the issue.

Stop acting like the X-Clamp is an end all permanent fix to the problem.
All it does is smash the mobo together to contact solder points.
And we're not being rude to the guy, we're giving the facts.
Even though there is no connection between the error code display and the cause of the three red rings, I tried it anyway to no avail (no surprise )

Statistics for You:
X-clamp Fix:
1. Fixed the 3RLOD. No issues at all now, no freezing, works fine: 925 consoles.
2. Fixed the 3RLOD. Video still freezes occasionally: 23 consoles.
3. Mixed results. Sometimes works with no 3RLOD: 8 consoles.
4. Did not fix the 3RLOD: 86 consoles.
And that is not recently updated. Source: Xbox-Scene
Just because in your case it didn't work doesn't mean it doesn't for others.

First of all, I'm 8-0 on fixes, way to just assume it didn't work on mine (How many do you have? 1?)
90% is good, but acting like a 90% fix (And quite a few stop working after the fact) is a permanent end-all fix is a little rediculous.

This method completely works. A guy on craigslist fixed my 360 with the X-clamp trick.
It still works perfectly since Dec 07. If your 360 overheats. It's HIGHLY recommended to get a fan along with the X-clamp.

I have not ripped this at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did this on my own accord and it is good if someone else is doing the same trick as me then I was right all along. I don't rip off other people if someone else did this I would have not bothered posting and just played on me xbox as normal!!!!

hey thanks fgamer, why people gotta be rude when there's no need, if people are rude in these forums and some guy comes along and knows how to say exploit a ps3 for instance free and someone is rude to him, he aint gonna wanna tell anyone <-- METAPHORE by the way.

Who said this was the X-Clamp mod m8, this is my way of doing it and letting know that I pressed a couple o buttons and got it o work, you should read the whole thread before making assumptions.

I have tried them all... and they will work, some for hours, others for days and some for months.. but it does come back eventually. The second fix usually lasts from a day to a week, and third time you are lucky to get more than a few hours.
M$ seem to think that a large number of cpu's have a faulty heat sensing element circuit which latches up. Overheating the chip deliberately can flip it back but sooner or later it flips again.
The clamping thing overcomes the dry joint type of situation until the oxide layer grows on the surface of the solder again.. that depends on environmental factors and can take again from days to months to show up again.
I refuse to touch them now because of the bounce factor. They come back, and it isn't worth the trouble.

I don't know (beep) all about fixing my Xbox (mainly cos it hasn't died yet) but can't you prevent it from getting RROD by limiting time played on it?
I was told RROD was down to overheating so like 2 hours a day keeps it within acceptable tempatures doesn't it? Or is the RROD just inevitable and will happen to 'em all?

The amount of time played should have no bearing on the 360s outcome. It reaches full operating temp quite quickly. Once it's heated, it's heated.
What causes the rrod is the warping of the motherboard. The warping is caused by heating, cooling, heating, cooling, and so on. So by always repeating the cycle of playing 2 hours then shutting it down and waiting for it to cool only to start playing again, you're only advancing the rate at which it may rrod.
You'd almost be better off turning on your 360 and leaving it on forever. Of course that's not practical, though.

Good point varnull but has anyone wondered maybe not all of the 360's that were made during the time (e.g. first builds) all 360's were soldered bad ( i could be wrong) but some could be ok and there is different overheating problems like cpu chip not soldered properly underneath and thermal sensor like varnul says could be faulty..... this is what my first post was about-- me pressing certain buttons to clear a log file or bios??????? ok I could be wrong in this aspect but maybe I am right, just because I fixed my xbox the way I did, didn't meanthat it was over heating or owt, I just read on the forums and you tube that peole were doing this x-clamp fix so I did my own and pressed me buttons and it worked and still does!! now maybe I didn't need to fix the x-clamp bit maybe all I had to do was press the buttons to reset something ( as I might have a faulty heat sensor!!!!!) and it worked!??? who knows th bottom line is that this fix worked for me and I hope people remeber it and when they need a little fix for there knackered xbox and try my fix and it works I want them to think, U KNOW WHAT, I'M GLAD MYRIDER POSTED HIS COMMENT CAUSE I'D BE STUCK RIGHT NOW!!!, some peeps may do the proper X-CLAMP fix by buying it from certain sources, and it might not work untill they press the appropriate buttons???????? u never know?
any fix to 360 is a better fix than a 360 inside a cupboard!!!!!!!! defo.
