Well my 360 is completely dead now due to the rrod. Microsoft wont repair it since I opened the console. Has microsoft made a version of the 360 that they can say its say to buy that the rrod is basically a thing of the past? Or should I wait a while and give them time to improve the system?
The RROD can still happen, they have not fixed that quite yet.
And so you know there are plenty of people out there and also web sites that will fix the RROD for you. Most charge around $60, so with shipping your probably looking at around $80 total.
if they do the right fix it should last. The only temp fix i have heard is that stupid towel trick.
Just google RROD repair or something like that. There are even people here on the site who i think can fix them. So you may get a reply from them too.

Here's my ebay feedback rating, the only thing i have in this world is my balls and my word!! I'm here to help mate, i breaks neither for anyone..
He just said he broke the seal on his 360, he voided the warranty.. MS refused to work on his console so he has no choice but to pay someone to repair the rrod for him or sell it on ebay for parts unless he doesn't want to fix it himself. There are lots of people like myself who can repair the console or third party companies that can repair it for no more then one hundred dollars if it's the rrod which he claims to be the problem.
